a friend is selling bell housings I think I know the answer but I need clarification thanks , what is the difference between a 3 and 4 speed bell housing I know the over dive (3/4 ) on A bodies had a larger bearing retainer but is it a difference in mounting bolts holes or tranny itself

Yes, there is definitely a difference. 3 spd is by itself as well as 63 which used a Borg Warner 4 spd. Then came the New Process 4 spd in 64 which has an even different bolt up pattern. Early 3 speeds were a New Process A745.
