This stay at home crap got to me. I decided to give in to the wife's 15+ year effort to move.
It was CRAZY!!! First, we got 4 offers in 24hrs all of which were the exact same...$15k OVER what we listed for!!!!! Then, we got beat out of two offers we made on houses we liked even though we had to play the same "bidding war". We FINALLY had an offer accepted that was also $15k OVER asking price. Then, the house we sold actually appraised at the offer price and the one we bought appraised at 10K OVER what we offered!!!! INSANE
The BEST part of the money side of all off this is We got a VA loan at 2 3/8% interest!!!
Looks like we might even be able to transfer our property tax rate to the new house based on an initiative that was passed last election that will save us about $200 per month in taxes too. Hard to believe such good fortune in such shitty times, and in California no less!

I sold mine middle of May. Prices were way up from when I bought in 2013 (+$58,000). Sold in a month reason being my realtor started high and had to back off the price.

New housing, per sq/ft is going for a lot more than used. So smaller floor plan, smaller lot houses are selling for $289,000 (mine was +400 sq/ft, bigger yard, sold for $247k) so the used market is booming.

I moved into my wife's house so I gained a pool and nice bank account but lost some garage space.

Glad it worked out for you - great news!

It's been over 30 years since I bought my house. But I am trying to get my parents' house prepared for sale since they have moved into an assisted living space. I hope the market is still hot when they sell theirs!

First.... congrats!

We sold our house Oct 2018 in the City for $10k over. The deal fell through from the buyers side so we listed it again and got $20k more. This was $60k over what the house next door with the identical floorplan plus an added master bed and bath sold for a year earlier. Needless to say, we were pretty happy.

We moved 100 miles away to a bigger house, with more shop space, 8x the property, banked $$$, 50% of the property taxes, and -2% less sales tax.

Yeah, this market reminds me of the housing bubble. 440'

I'm friends with a few relators when they come over they always appraise my house I bought for $117000 I invested $50000 into place .
They both tell me it's $350000-370000 the way it sits ! I constantly debate about selling it and moving away for the city !
I tell my wife we should sell move into our trailer we rent wait for the low and buy again cheap!

Hell my trailer (1250 sqft) 2 car garage
Is valued at $125000-130000 might just sell it as no one ever pays rent after 6 months

Yep sold mine in March of this year. Had 8 offers in 24 hours. Lived in that house almost 11years. Moved into a brand new home about 30 minutes north. Worked out great. I agree it's shitty times, but the housing market is great. I'm thankful.

The markets great and interest rate are as low as I've seen, the time is now!!

As I was getting married this year, we put my Wife's house on the market with a Realtor. It is a small but very nice house right within the city limits. It listed for $149K, and within two days there was a bidding war between 4 buyers. It sold for $6K over asking price to a cash offer. No waiting for appraisals and financing, just a home inspection. We were shocked, but happy. Except the buyers wanted to close within 4 weeks, so we didn't have as much time to move her into my place as we had planned. But it all worked out good in the end! Sold the house, got married, sold most excess furniture, moved her to my house, and closed on hers, all within about a month. WHEW!

VA is the way to go Darius. Am I correct when I assume you will be staying in CA. It sure sounds like it...Cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Yes, even though I reminded the wife that they make airplanes so one can visit people like grandchildren, she would not go for out of state. At least it worked out taxes and finances wise. Hell, she is eligible for SS now and that makes 85% of the new house payment so we actually end up with a bigger place, bigger yard, AND a THREE CAR GARAGE!!!!!!!!!....and have MORE disposable income. Just a case of all the planets lining up for us I guess.

new home prices are around 200 sq. ft to have a house built, around here. unless you buy some crap production home, material is off the charts, its just gonna cost a whole lot more for anyone to get into a home, great time to invest IMO.

Bought our current house just over 5 years ago....just before the housing price boom. Doubled in value within 6 months.

Houses around my area are selling within a month - usually at auction, and sometimes sooner when a cash offer comes in.
My thoughts are that if a house sells too fast, it was listed too cheap. The Agents here don't care, as long as they get their commission. We bought privately and saved about $30K in fees.

With the mass exit of people from CA. and I'm sure there's lots of vacant homes not sold, this just boggles my mind. And with your post #14, you certainly got the much better end of the deal for staying there. I'm looking to buy and move further East, hopefully in 21. Good Luck

Great time to sell.

Terrible time to buy.

Nice time if you own 2 or more houses.

We moved earlier this year, had a house we found and wanted. Contingent on selling ours, sold our house within 6 hrs of listing it and had 2 other offers within the same day.
Crazy market right now for sure.
