Gentlemen: This covid stay at home stuff has got me tinkering with my ride. But this is new territory for me. Been looking at the tire calculator chart for a mild combination of tires. Two questions for you: (1) will a .5" difference in height make a noticeable rake ? I want very little, if any rake. (2) Is a 1.5" difference in width noticeable to the untrained eye? The car is a 1968 Charger H code & 4sp. All stock. Thanks.

Remember you are working with a circle that has a center axle so to achieve an increase of 1/2" in height requires 1" in total diameter increase.
Perception is in the eyes of the beholder.
Every body sees things differently.
What do you really have in mind and aren't saying ?
Tire sizes are in ratio's so if you change one dimension ( height) it will affect width and vice versa.
215/70-15 215 = Section width in MM . 70 = % of height to width ratio.
215 divided by 70 = the % height from the rim to the top of the tire. Also known as profile.

I don't like the jacked up look either. I have multiple sets of 15"x8" factory wheels and Cragar wheels with 295/50 tires on each of them. 12-1/2" of sectional width with no rake.

Hey 6PKRTSE, what size tire are you running up front ? I'm guessing 215/70. Does the 295/50s fit with no modifications ? Great looking set up you have there. I also agree with the no rake look.

Nice ride. Early consideration is 235/60R15 front and 295/50R15 rear. Or, 225/70R15 front and 275/60R15 rear. Car is out to the paint shop so I can't actually measure anything just yet.
Either combo you said look good. I prefer the 235 and 295's myself.

Bolt on no mods for a B or E or C body. I have had them on all 3. Too short of profile on the big ole C body though.
I have 235/60/15's on the fronts.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like I'm at least in the right neighborhood. Back to my original question. If there is only a 1.5" to 2" difference in width front-back does that really stand out. If not, may as well save some money and put the same tire all the around.

To get back to your original question A tire grows in all directions, not just one. If you make it wider it will also be taller unless you change the profile.
Use this calculator to get all of the dimensions including height, width, revs per mile etc..

That's what I used to come up with size's I'm considering. Don't know how much trust to put in their image. Hoping to hear from some of you folks with personal knowledge/experience. Thanks.

I’ve been researching staggered tire/wheel width “no rake” combinations..

235/70/15 front &
275/60/15 rear 28” tall

245/60/15 front
295/50/15 rear 26.5” tall

Best all four same size, for fit and looks, on a factory OEM wheel, is 245/60/15 on 15x7 4.25” backspace wheels, in my opinion. 255/60/15 is too wide on the front in my experience.

Thanks. Both of these are on my radar. The 235/275 combo shows 1.5" difference in width. Does that stand out to the casual observer? I'm simply after looks, not all out performance.
