I had a 1990 Toyota 4Runner. The knock sensor and cable/connector were under the intake manifold. The connector often gets a little crusty, so you need to pull off the intake to clean and reset it. New knock sensor cost? $490, without the wiring. After I fixed it, I found where you could cut the wiring before it goes through the intake and splice it to a newly located replacement knock sensor screwed into a vacant hole on the outside of the head. FYI, generic knock sensor = $50.

Both my bikes have the spin on oil filter in the sump. Drop the oil pan to change it.
