My daughter drives a 16 F 150 xlt.
Had her 1st flat tire today on it.
She bought this truck new and is on her second set of tires.
The spare had never been down, the tool kit never opened. I went to help her and discovered the lug wrench ford supplies will not fit the chrome/ stainless lug nuts.
Each factory nut has a stainless cover crimped on it to look sharp.
Well that factory wrench will not fit over it unless you pry the cover off each nut.
Anyway long story shortened we got the tire swapped.
Just wanted to post this for all of you who have those stainless covers .
May want to check wrench fit. This was all oem stuff. It may be a problem on other brands of trucks as well.

Good advice. Those types of lug nuts have been a problem since at least the early 80's and maybe sooner. I was an auto mechanic from the mid 70's to the late 90's and I hated seeing a vehicle pull in that I knew had those lugnuts on it because they could be a bitch to get off. The metal the lugnut itself was made of would corrode between itself and that metal cap and the cap would swell and you couldn't get the lug wrench, or socket in my case to fit. The ones I remember were supposed to take a 3/4 inch socket to fit but wouldn't because they were swollen so you would have to pry the cap off and knock all the corrosion off and then use an 18mm socket to get them off. I bought a Dodge Dakota pickup that had those damn things on it and had a hell of a time getting them off all 4 wheels.

I though you were going to say someone stole the spare tire. Happen on my 2005 Ram 3500. Replaced the stock crank setup with the Mopar one that has a security end on it sort of like the locking lug nuts have.

Have a 95 and a 96 Dakota (had a 2000 Durango until about 4 years ago) and they all had those lug nuts with the SS caps on them and never had a problem unless one came off then had to grab the 18mm socket....but I don't live in the rust belt either and never crossed my mind that would be a problem since it wasn't happening here.

It very much is.
Our late model Charger with the 20" wheels had those @#$%@# lugs on it from new as well;
fortunately, I knew enough to check for that when we received it and
made a point of fetching REAL chrome lugs from Gorilla, just as I have had to do with the
'04 Ram and other vehicles before.

Who came up with that stupid freaking idea to begin with?
GM, in the mid 70's. Remember it well...

As previously said, this has been a problem for a long time. I bought a replacement set for my wife's F150, but upgraded to solid lugs, never a problem since.

Not sure what Ford was thinking with their 21mmish chrome lugs. If a customer comes in chewed lug testicles, I generally decline the job.

The first problem is the blue oval on the front of the truck....everything after that is just stupid

Thought maybe you had to order the spare, optional equipment.

I had the opposite problem with my 03 P/T.

Every one of the tin caps had come off and the OEM lug wrench was loose on them and they felt like they could strip easily.
