Rebuilt 440 Shortblock

With new rings and bearings, the crank by its self turns pretty easily but as I installed each rod and piston it got harder to turn. I turned it with a torque wrench upon final assembly and it took twenty-five LBs to turn it. Everything has been checked for clearance I'm thinking it's the friction of the new rings.
What do you guys think?

Yes, as long as you checked your bearing, piston, and ring gaps you should be all set. 440'
 
Rings certainly add resistance... Sounds pretty typical to me....
 
If it still spun freely with the pistons and rings, you would have a major problem. Resistance is normal, and 25 Ft/Lbs. is not that much.
 
Yup, crank should spin pretty free with just lubed bearings, when you put the pistons in each one should increase the resistance a similar amount.. If it gets dramatically harder to turn you probably have a problem, likely either an oil ring or a bearing problem.. How did the camshaft turn? You did fit it first right? Cause it's pretty common to have to scrape the bearings and you do that with an empty block..

I had a shop do them and it turns with little effort. I haven't rebuilt an engine since the early seventies but just wanted input from you guys.
