A friend told me that mine are hard to see during the day. I don’t really care for the look of the Digi Tails. What are you using?

Make sure housing cups are still reflective silver paint or white. Clean lenses , check sockets for corrosion and check grounds.
Any paint work in the trunk area may be messing with your sockets being grounded.

Bulbs painted car color?

Bulbs clear and functioning as intended. Lenses are old, but free from overspray. Given the design and that the car has been garaged longer that it wasn’t, I’m leaning towards replacing the really old bulbs and going LED. Any experience, part numbers, pictures, etc....?

Here's the LEDs I bought for my 1971 tail lights.

Clean up the housings (paint if required).
Here are the bulbs powered up.

Make sure the LEDS you buy are coloured. Tail lights need RED LED's.
If you put clear LEDS then the tail lights will light up pink!
Here's what it looks like with the lens on.

.....could be the reflective coating in your lenses sir.

^^^^ Agree on the reflective coating. Also if you have the old 1034 bulbs replace them with 1157s. The 1157s are brighter.

I removed my lenses and applied some shiny aluminum tape to the inside.

Another thought, that I have not tried, is to crumple up some aluminum foil, then straighten it out and apply it as the reflector. The multi-faceted aluminum might make it more visible.

I used the LEDs for my 72. You will need a different flasher unit with a ground. The wires have to be polarized, doesn’t matter on originals. Easy enough to do if the plug isn’t wired correct. I did mine about 6 years ago, I think they’re great.
