Why do the Blackouts exist and why are they larger than the headlight areas? Just wondering,

The sight of an oncoming Mopar, is enough to make some cheby & ferd drivers tremble in fear. To have the entire car and headlight area in a bright intimidating Mopar color, would be too much for some to behold. :)

Someone at Mopar (engineer and/or management) didn't like the body color showing behind the grille and thus created an eternal bitching point among the Mopar community not to mention Mopar Action magazine who will call it out every single time....

Without you see body color behind grill as said. (For smart guys except black cars:D) I did the blackout on my car after paint and missed below radiator, only took me 40 years to correct it.

Really make me miss Mopar Muscle.

I think you guys are missing that he's talking about the nose decals on a Bird, not blacking out the radiator support...

He's talking about Superbirds and the blacked out covers.

Kinda like putting a bikini on a set of headlights. Many times they look better covered...

It is a good question now looking at that Superbird. They all had them didn't they?

I like the look when it has the finished look. But I don’t like the outline of body color around the headlights like this white bird has.

One of the things that I missed on mine while at the paint shop. You don't want to know how much it cost to have them airbrushed on.

Mine wasn't done right when I got it in 1990 either. I taped off the decals and painted in the buckets.

Simply a guess.
But might have something to do with surface texture differences between a glass head light door versus a metal nose cone

More visual punch and to distinguish it from the Daytona? That is, marketing.
