Team,

This ground short is a real interesting one. Anyone in the DFW area that needs a case of beer of their choice to help figure this out just let me know.....PM me and we'll connect.

Can you give a little info on the issue you are having? Maybe you have the info in another post but I must have missed it.

In essence, its the fuse for the tail/stop lights. I keep blowing the fuse....and can find no issue with the harness.....cleaned it tested it.....loved it. I got a new M&H made harness for the front lights and tail as well as engine....all that seemed ok......but now I'm chasing this ground issue....

Did you follow the harness from the drivers kick panel all the way to the back? It should go under the wire protector under the back seat and over the rear wheel hump. Violet wire is for the backup lights. Brown is stop turn. Black is Tail Lights. Dark Green is Stop Turn. Dark Blue is gas gauge. Pretty simple harness. The grounding is done at each bulb and housing. You might want to check each wire for continuity to ground. If you get a beep then you know a wire has lost its coating or some other weird issue with it being grounded out.

Could your issue be with the brake switch itself? Another thing to think about is that the brake lights go through your turn signal switch.

Also make sure the bulb sockets are not internally damaged causing the internal tab to hit the outside shell. This would cause a short.

Bulb sockets are new, and appear correct. I'm checking it all again to make sure

Exactly when does the fuse blow?
Immediately even though you do not have the lights on or the brakes activated?
When you turn the lights on and/or when the brakes are activated?

So, one of the issues I noted just a few minutes ago.....was I was using incorrect single pole bulbs in both the courtesy lights and the rear tail lights ( holy crap, you can't make this stuff up) so I'm going back through all of my fixtures to make sure I did not goof that on every other socket.....that was a big no-no....short for sure there....

OOOOOPS

Don't they have a different arrangement of the nubs on the sides to (ahem) prevent this or at least make it very difficult?

...even if they did, some dumbass jar-head, like yours truly, would figure out a way to dick it up......

I tell ya what, though.

I LOVE an easy solution.

I hope that's "all" it is.

Tail light circuit runs throught the turn signal switch, so I would check the turn signal switch, then maybe the hazard switch and blinker canisters

Still have no headlights yet either, so I replaced the switch just to make sure as well......but who knows.....still need to hook up a few things to see
