Proper voltage while cruising

While we're talking voltage regulators...has anyone else tried to get the 'ol VR706 lately, and gotten this:

I went to Autozone and got the last VR706 they had and this was in the box.
It seems to be working fine but it has a cheap plastic body instead of the little shiny metal one we've come to know..
