We just had a big rolling Earthquake here

I was in Alaska in 64, these little ones don't bother me at all... That one had my attention...

Hope everyone in California is okay.

Never been through an earthquake, I live pretty far from the coast so we are probably safe here but they keep saying the “big one” is coming for the Pacific Northwest. Who knows though, could be tomorrow or 10,000 years from now. Although it kicks out a 9.0 every few hundred years or so. Last one was in 1700 I believe. The one in Alaska in 64 was a big one...

I will happily take a decent sized earthquake every ten or twenty years, compared to a couple or three hurricanes a year, or a few hundred tornadoes, or six months of snow.
Heck i dont even feel a 4 richter, my shepherds jumping on the bed shakes about as much as a five, a six gets noticed. Now, a seven........

Jersey sucks......but we don't get any of that :thankyou:

I was at the auto part store and another customer said we're having an earth quake. I put my hands on the counter and felt it a bit. Since my mobility isn't up to par, I always feel shaky walking and standing.

I was visiting a friend in the LA area in the early 90s and there were two 5.x earthquakes in the early, early morning an hour or two apart.
Sounds like the ones I experienced there. :)

Take care all of you guys in the shaky area.....remember they can hit without warning.

Be prepared with a charged phone and basic supplies.

In 1965 when I was just a young tad. An earthquake hit while visiting family in Seattle. I was outside. And I thought it was fun. Falling down because I couldn't stand. I didn't understand that people were getting hurt. And damage. I was only 5. But it was like being in one of those inflatable moon walk carnival rides. With a bunch of heavier kids jumping? At times I left my feet. With plenty of smaller ones to follow. I remember the grown ups crying.

I would hate to go thru that as an adult. With my assets being destroyed. And/or loved ones hurt and in danger. I guess that was a 6.7. A 7.7 is 10 times more powerful? Holy ****!

The 64 alaska quake pictured above was a 9.2 richter. I cant concieve of the difference in power from a six or seven. I know LA would look like hiroshima 45.

Not quite.... Try 32 times more powerful....

I was in Frisco in '89 for the quake. Initially reported as 6.9 which I think they upped to 7.1 several days later. Was at the end of the cable car line by Fisherman's Warf. About 15 seconds of strange vibration, then a big 'pop" that seemed to lift my feet off the ground. A few people said earthquake, huh. We walked up the hill & stopped at the top of Lombard St, looking out at the Bay Bridge, which people with '60's style transistor radios said had collapsed. We watched cars driving toward us on the bridge, must not have collapsed we thought. Wrong, cars going the wrong way back from the collapse. City mostly shut down for several days.
