Can paint be traced to a year, month, day, by measuring the decay ratio? Sort of like carbon dating, I mean- or sediment layers underground or tree life span from its circular lines within its trunk I mean sort of. If so is their a business that traces this for fine grading. I’d love to send this off to have it certified real. Does have orange peel and ruff painted part number. I just got this for the 383.

I believe there would be too many variables on the decay rate. Different exposures in different environments, thickness of the original paint, grades of paint...

Pictures of a known original and compare it to what you have to verify. Other things like stamping marks, spot welds, the cut edge of a piece of metal from a die.

Thanks for letting me know. My dad said I should have just bought a new one but for 150 more I thought what the heck. Ill just take many pictures over the years with it and just have to say it’s old but I have no proof of it’s a original.

Carbon dating coal works I guess. Oak island. But foot squished berrys made into paint.. I dont think so. :D

Lead based paint was a standard product back then. And the toners to mix those paints came from all over the world. Dating paint is tough.
