Unless you prefer the shield, a fire sleeve would protect that hose.

You are correct. It is galvanized...

Does anyone know the part number for the heat shield? I have two NOS shields that look a lot like that and could not find the number in the book.
 
I'm fairly certain there is no part number. Can you post a photo?
 
Here are the ones I have. There are two in the packae and the number is 2228748. Not exactly like the other one shown but close?

In 1964 the B-Body Power Steering Return Hose Shield Part Number was 2127269
Found in the factory parts book under 19-58-23
 
Here is a picture of the original return hose and shield that came from my 64 Belvedere w/361 engine.
The shield shown in the picture in post #9 which I sold here, came from a car that I parted many years ago.
