Long story short, I bought a dual snorkel air cleaner for the WCFB on my Poly. Had it blasted and powder coated. Everything fits fine BUT the hood won't close. After reading a lot about carbs here I decided to nix the WCFB - after paying a lot to have it professionally restored - and purchased an Edelbrock 1906 AVS2. Hood clearance would have been fine with the 1906 BUT the dual snorkel has a 4" opening and the Edelbrock is 5". I have about 3 1/2 inches of hood clearance now with the Edelbrock so I'm looking for a different air cleaner. Preferably nothing fancy, no chrome - something similar to the Max Wedge air cleaners. Would love to hear your suggestions.

I would get a drop base that fits your 1906 , it will likely be smaller diameter outside than your stocker, use your dual snorkel top, and adjust the height of the filter element to suit. Aditional opening at the bottom wont hurt if the airflow still goes through the filter.

So, the height is adjusted by the thickness of the filter element? Interesting.
