What headlights is everyone running? My 66 Charger calls for 4002 and 4001 but currently has 5006 and 5001's in it. The bulbs that i have now are from the 80's and yellow light that just isnt very bright. I'm looking for the brightest, whitest light that will plug into original connectors and not have issues. No LEDs at least not yet. Lol

I know you said no LED, but I put NAPA LEDs in my Plymouth and they are awesome

I use Hella halogens. Good quality light with great control due to the lenses. I have them in my 442 as well.

I've got originals where I need them and they aren't very bright - I try not to drive at night in those cars. What the heck did they do when that was all they had? Did they have better eyeballs?

Buy the @Crackedback relay kit. It will double your brightness. Plug and play.

I bought the vision x hid headlight conversion kit, had to buy a morimoto 9004/9007`wiring harness. All in all it was a easy install.

66-67 Chargers have rotating headlight buckets, so LED's that one might use in a conventional situation with heat sinks ect. on the rear will not necessarily fit in the space within the headlight buckets.

I run H1/H4 conversion lights in my '70 Charger, paired with 35W HID H4 hi/lo bulbs, and 30W LED H1 high beam bulbs. The conversion lamps are bolt-in replacements for sealed beam lights, but you get replaceable bulb capability like modern lights. My conversion lights are Euro-spec, so they have a beam pattern that actually WORKS and puts light where you need it, without being in the eyes of oncoming traffic. And, you can pick the color temperature of HIDs and LEDs when you buy them. I run 4300k H4s, which is a bright daylight white (NOT BLUE), and my highbeams are a 3000k amber.

For those without hideaway lights, these conversion lamps look just like factory sealed beam lights - serrated lenses like the originals - so you can "get away" with them unless you're entered in the most nitpicky judged concours show. Plug and play LEDs; the HIDs come with a ballast, plug right into the factory harness, and the ballast has a ground lead (use a mounting screw) and a hot lead that goes to the battery. Very reasonably invisible in my book, considering I can now actually SEE when I drive at night! The 5" lights are kinda limiting just because of size, but these are absolutely better than stock. My '01 Ram has Sport headlights, also with 35w HID hi/lo and 50w LED hi's, and I can cook deer where they stand with that thing. All these guys with LED light bars on their trucks...I don't need one. The stock housings with upgraded lamps work just fine.

I just purchased Sylvania sealed beam, halogen lights for my 66. But haven’t had it out to see how good they are - probably better than the old filament light but nowhere as good as modern vehicle lights

Halogen is still a filament, they just fill the envelope (glass part) with a different gas that allows it to burn brighter. The only lights that don't have a filament are HID (High Intensity Discharge), which is two posts that have a small lightning bolt between them as a light source (the ballasts create extremely high voltage out of the car's 12v system); and of course LED which is a light emitting diode setup.

I did the Halogens (IIRC 60 watt LB - 80 watt HB) myself,
easy peasy plug & play
seems like almost twice the light too, way better than OE
not very expensive either
it's fine, works great, up here in the sticks light is needed
got them at the local NAPA/Debco

I was going to do HID, but got cheap at the last moment

I have a Powermaster 75 amp alt.
& later version electronic voltage regulator
just make sure all the wiring is up to par

Main reason I use HID/LED on my cars. Lumens per watt is SO much higher with HID/LED. My 35W HIDs are still more than twice the lumens (brightness) of an 80W halogen. They make 50W HID kits...but they're TOO bright to use on public roads. I get tired of everyone flashing me, even when I have them aimed correctly...

The 50w hid ballast are nice, but they wash out the color of the bulbs that much more and the bulbs burn out quicker than a 30w ballast.

We drive our Plymouth a lot, that means driving home at night. In north Iowa we have an insane deer population so I decided bright is better. I had some LED that looked factory, they were a cob style LED with a reflector. They were better then stock but the beam was not very focused and I got flashed all the time even on low beam.

GE Nighthawks along with relays work great at a reasonable cost. I don't do a much night driving so its all I have ever needed.

I run LEDs and love them, they aren't the swap meet $35 sets as they are junk..mine were $106 but for 4.
They did require opening the back of the bucket up in order to seat completely.

Do the leds come with the different 3 and 2 prong plugs to connect to the factory female wiring? Also have you driven at night with them? How do they perform?
