Guys, almost went into cardiac arrest this morning at the paint store. I have squirted a few cars but still consider myself an amateur at best, I just don't paint a lot. I have a local PPG jobber and that's the brand I learned with way back. I needed four quarts of base coat in two colors, blue and red. I have used their Omni line for beaters in the past and ask for that. They ask if I wanted Omni Plus or regular. What's Omni Plus I ask, oh just an up grade, better coverage less coats. Great, yes I said. How much is that, knowing prices have gone up. $651.85 total...GEEEZZZZ I hollered, how much is regular Omni, $355.00 for four quarts. Is there a cheaper line out there y'all are using if you are not going for a show room repaint. Ive used some solid colors mail ordered from Summit but have not tried mail order for custom mixed, what works for you. thanks

UreChem from The Coating Store. Good price and very good results.

If you use cheap paint it will be affected by the sun earlier in its life. Do you like the clear coat peeling look after 2 years? I don't so I buy quality paint so it doesn't fail.

I used Wanda base and clear on 2 cars, the price is around 385/gal from local supplier. Came out great.
Gets good reviews on the SPI forum chat

Earl Shieb.
Seriously. I've got a theft-recovery camaro that was completely destroyed by the thieves, to disguise it.
When I get it running again, it's gonna get the cheapest coat of red I can find. The only Earl Shieb I know of still in business is local in my California area.

I switched over to SPI primers/clears and PPG Omni or Shop Line basecoats a few years ago. For my son's truck I'm currently doing, I'm trying out Tamco for everything. They're a local company and I know a few guys locally that have used them extensively. I sprayed the epoxy primer a few weeks ago. It's decent, but I think I like the SPI better. Hopefully I'll be able to try to shoot a little of the basecoat sometime in the next few weeks.

Not a paint question but relating to inflation...I was looking for a group 27 battery the other day. When the hell did batteries prices jump up to $200 CAD?! I remember buying a new basic top-post battery for $59.99...

$200 canadian? Oh, a cheapie!
Two optimas for my diesel pickup was $575 USD.
Seriously, I've gotten several batteries from Sam's while in AZ, (would have bought from Costco, but it's 100 miles away) and bought two in a month a while back. The second one a month later had gone up thirty bucks.
