You all that have solar panels...

Natural gas makes up roughly 50% of the power generation in Texas.
They didn’t build / plan for such cold temps and the gas lines froze.

research it. The information is all there.
Didn't the wind turbines fail miserably in TX cold snap?

You can get more storage capacity with additional batteries in parallel to the existing ones.
Right. This is my first rodeo and I will see how it works out. Running the second bank may be needed. Right now I just got back from 3 days of use and my lowest voltage was 24.8. My cut in is 24.3 for the generator. The battery manufacturer claims that if I keep my depth of discharge at 30 percent I will have a lot longer battery life. So at this point it is one day at a time to get used to the inter-workings of the system.

From a fellow Okie, why didn't you choose wind energy over solar? For example, Leno did it for his humongous shop using the new style upright wind turbine.

Noise. Windmills are noisy contraptions, no matter the size. Out in western Oklahoma, the windmills have ruined the landscape. And if you drive anywhere out there, you'll hear the very annoying hum of the windmill farms. Pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off, you'll see. This goes for anywhere these huge beasts dwell.

Solar is silent. Yes, it's equally dependent on weather and all that, but the windmills' prime drawbacks to me are aesthetics and noise.

I had mentioned the possibility of adding a dedicated small windmill in the future as shop-only power. And that is still possible. There is one about a mile or so from me. I need to see how noisy that one is before I give that idea any further thought.

I have 28 340w panels and 2 Tesla batteries, I overbuilt with inverters and electronics to add more batteries and or panels in the future. It will provide power for the whole house when sunny and generate enough to fill the batteries by 1pm then i power the grid. With the AC running in every room I use all the battery by 9pm and am pulling from the grid. The batteries are nice, and the interface is nice, Tesla service is SLOWWWWW.... The batteries also drain really fast compared to deep cell, but that requires room and proper ventilation. If and when I do it again I will research the batteries the most and do a system I have more control over to maintain and fix.

There are different options that are cheaper and have a slower discharge rate. Like what was said the tech on batteries is not as fast as it should be.

I have had it for 2yrs now and had a few issues, inverter interface went bad and had to have them replace it and fix it. I had a Tesla network problem that kicked the batteries offline and it took Tesla two days to have tech look at it and a week for them to reset the switch and turn it back on. Another weird thing is that when the electric has a surge or has an power outage that is abrupt it is not an instant change over, if the sun is setting and it gradually is tapering from one system to another it works flawless.

I live in the country and a neighbor recently built a very large carport and installed panels in framework. The solar panels are the roof. Makes you wonder if they could just replace a tile roof.

Yep.
I guess the majority there are happy with the likes of Gov Newsome.
The people had a chance to inflict some positive change...
Oh well.
yeah 2 areas like 20% of the state's landmass = 60% of the vote
the SF bay Area & LA basin, some small sections of the Valley
that all live like labrats in apartments, rentals all on-top of each other together
(many of the property owners, live in the rural/conservative part of the state)
the people living there, pay very little in income taxes,
or on the govt dole or have exemptions (like SF, Hollyweirdo, Silicon Valley)
or own very little real property or pay very little property taxes
saved that asshole Gruesome Newsome or voted no on the recall,
which, that left him in office, he still has another year IIRC before the election

pretty much the rest of the state,
has only 40%+ or so of the populous = 80% of the landmass
"all wanted him gone"
