I just remembered this from a Prarie Chicken hunt 30 years ago.

I don't know what triggered the memory. Back then we were on a hunt in the Flint Hills region of Kansas. Dang those birds are fast. It was later in the day and we were going to try some hedgerows for quail. This was a big private ranch, that my friend's grandparents owned. We entered another pasture and here was this monument. I knew who Knute Rockne was but I didn't know the whole story until I looked it up on YouTube just now. It was kind of creepy being out there in the middle of nowhere. You still can't visit it because it's on a private cattle ranch.

Any more information on Knute, or where I can research? Our Hungarian partridges are even faster than our prairie chickens.

Just look him up on YouTube There's a lot of videos about his life and plane crash. Yeah, we missed a lot.

He's a legend here in my neck of the woods.

Although, the current coach just passed him for all time total "wins" at the school a couple of weeks ago.
