I’m putting a 6.4 with an 8hp70 in a 71 roadrunner. Have many of you taken this on before? If so, any pointers?

Thanks for the link! Holley, it seems, has very little 71+ B-body stuff. I already have almost everything I think needed. Motor, transmission (out of a 2020 SRT Charger w/only 9k miles), RMS K member (on order), Mopar engine and Sound German transmission controller. I am a bit curious to see if many have done this in this body style. I have a USCT tunnel on the way. They are kind enough to help make the E-body tunnel work for this project.

I am doing (or will be) a 71 Charger with a 5.7 and a TKX 5 spd. I am going to be using a Holley Terminator X control system, TTI headers, TTI motor mounts. Borgeson PS box, Holley oil pan, Holley mid mount plate with the alt PS pump (which is a type II, and AC compressor), hydro-boost brake booster, 85 Mopar MC, new gen Challenger electric fans, not sure what radiator just yet.

My wife actually bought me the car! I’ve been wanting one since I finished my ‘Cuda but ended up building her “dream truck” first.

To the OP I look forward to hearing and learning about your build. I just got tasked with installing a 2020 6.4 and 8 speed from a srt8 charger into a 72 Dodge charger.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. I will hopefully have the motor and trans in this week for a test fit to see what tunnel mods are needed. While its in there I will be getting the rest of the drive line figured out. I decided to put in the rear end out of a 2018 Challenger. It is only 1/2 an inch narrower so it should be a good fit. My goal is stock look with modern comforts. Dakota Digital is building a custom set of gauges for me with stock looking faces and will all be run off the OBD port. I approved the final design of them last week.

Thanks I am sure I will have countless questions.lol what are you doing for the throttle? Useing the electric one or switching the throttle Body out for a cable operated one? I am going to have to figure out how to adapt the 6.4 A/C system to the 72 charger and the power steering. I see that holley makes a transtunnel brace. But it says up to 70 Body. Going to have to see if it will work with the 72. Also going to have to see what he wants to do about the engine guages.

I'm curious to see what this looks like. I was looking at Dakota Digital this morning thinking maybe they had added support for the 71/72 B-bodies, but alas nothing. I'll be following closely as I'm planning on something similar. I'm leaning towards the T56 Magnum 6spd though as it appears there's more aftermarket support for the 71/72 in getting it to fit. Are you planning on using the 2018 harness/ecu as well?

Do yourself a favor and look at the new Edelbrock system! The Holley wiring harness is very poorly laid out. Also the Holley and Edelbrock use the older style knock sensor and you have to buy I think 2009 crank sensor.

I’m sticking with the fly by wire pedal. I’ll just adapt it to take the stock pedal. I went with vintage air for the A/C and when I bought the the RMS alterkation Front end and they revalved a stock 2017 (maybe earlier) power steering pump for me to get the right pressure. It bolts right into the idler pulley location on the top drivers side. I have the Mopar performance gen 3 wiring harness. Looks like a simple setup. I got the complete fuel system from Aeromotive they actually make a tank specifically for the 71-2 B-body with in tank pumps. I suggest research and buy everything you are going to need as soon as you can. Some of these parts are taking up to 8 months to come in.

That ship already sailed, I have the Holley system already although I have not yet begun the build. I have experience with the Holley software which was one of the reasons I went with them.
