As unpopular as it was ,isn't it possible to still get health insurance under the affordable care act for about 300 per month per individual. I understand it more of a major medical than an all inclusive health plan but it could serve as a cheaper stop gap until Medicare kicks in.
The wife and I are retiring in April of this year. Not a fan but we signed up for, and are currently paying for, a plan through the ACA. For the two of us our monthly bill is $212 total. That includes a $108 a month umbrella plan to cover what the regular plan does not. Time will tell, but the plan looks better than the BCBS plan I carry at work. The big problem with ACA is how long the subsidies will last. For us that is around $1100 a month. Another problem is you have to watch how much income you claim/draw. At the above price, we only admit to $28K a year.
