RAIDERS!!!!

I sympathize with all of you that opine your need for sympathy due to your NFL team. I too blew off all pro sports in the wake of the wokeness shoved down our throats these past couple of years. I was good with the Lakers until they brought James. And that was before it all - but couldn’t stand him for any reason regardless. But then with the advent of the St George thing I pissed all over everything Lakers - Think I vaguely heard they won the tin trophy 2 years ago but haven’t the slightest idea what happened this past season. I don’t typically watch regular season MLB but always watch the playoffs and the WS. Not so these last couple of years.

I skipped most of the Vikings and NFL season last year and watched college, but caved this year largely because the NFL for the most part made it a one year thing save a couple of the teams with the replacement of the team name for a woke term on the back of the helmet. I really like watching pro football and the Vikes were one of the very few teams that never took a knee. NHL or any of the others I’m firmly and permanently out. But I have to have something so college and NFL are it.

Now the reason for my post - for those that whine about their teams woes - I prefer not to sympathize with those such as the Raiders, Packers and so many others. And then to suggest the Raiders have more heart than any team in football because they scabbed an overtime win against the Chargers - The Guy must be fresh from the womb. The Raiders have sucked for decades and barely eked in this year. It was the late 60’s and 70’s since they possessed any consistency.

Who am I to talk you ask? Exactly - a nobody that’s jealous of all the winning teams. A fan of legendary inconsistency and monumental failure. A fan that’s been summarily beaten and tortured throughout my lifetime. A Vikings fan. Do I need say more. I actually breathed a sigh of relief when they were bumped out of the playoffs saving us from another first round drubbing. They lost an almost unbelievable one score, last minute games this year. They gave up more points in the final two minutes of a half than any other team in the history of the league dating back to 1970 when that stat began recording. Our days were the also the late 60’s and throughout the 70’s. We had the most vaunted defense in football for many years - but still managed to lose our 4 SB appearances back then. We had the most prolific offense in league history in 1998 but managed to have “Mr Automatic” miss a field goal in the final seconds against Atlanta who went on to win the SB. We had several other such events i.e. the Drew Pearson pass interference non call when Dallas went on to win the SB. On and on. We call it the Vikings curse. Don’t know what we did wrong but just once in my lifetime could we catch the break vs the break catching us. No sympathy from me for anyone - and not much street cred for those that squeaked in…… But also no offense guys - I’m just jealous.

All with you on this, Ron ! It's just like entertainers... I don't give a flyin' F what your politics or religion is... you're entitled to think whatever you want, but...You're there to entertain me, just do that. Period.
Yeah – entertainers and others having a big microphone; if you’re a singer or actor, wunnerful…sing and act! Do not include your political or religious views as part of da show. Expound when receiving an Oscar? F-NO; thank your mom, dad, and the producer and get da **** off the stage! SAME with ball players, play friggin ball…they want to expound on other stuff or causes, fine, do it on their OWN time. Commish could have grown a pair and just said this point blank to the players. I’ve chuckled (or been more peeved) putting this in perspective with US who work for a living to do whatever it is we’re paid to do. Used to do a lot of training sometimes before dozens of people. I could just imagine how long my job would have lasted if I took those opportunities to chat about my ‘views’ on the world as part of my training curriculum! Zero doubt fired. In fact, avoided it when ‘on duty’ even when someone wanted to bring it up. BUT ball players and others in pro-sports or entertainment should get a pass?? ****-NO. And some wonder why THIS pisses people off?

. Yeah those Vikings do suck.

I did but you obviously didn’t read my initial post to start this thread and since your not a Raiders fan you wouldn’t know what this team has been through to get this far.

As a Packers fan, I was just old enough to remember their ‘glory’ years and then…the nearly two decades when they sucked, rinsed, and re-sucked. I had relatives in IL who loved to give me chit when da Bears were in and Ditka relishing doing anything to add the extra stomp when playing the Packers. Vikings had the Pack’s number for years too…as did most other teams. Years of sucking up the losses waiting and hoping. I like the fact the Packers are the only ‘fan’ owned team; have a few shares and one of the few original teams when pro-football started.

I used to work near the stadium and all of the businesses would cringe when the Raiders fans came to town. They were by far the most obnoxious fans of any visiting sport /team. Though I am not a big "sports guy" I always root against the Raiders because of this. So.... I hope they fall flat on their face!

...so last weekend when the talking heads were discussing teams moving IE; Rams, Raiders, Jacksonville(maybe)...they brought the Packers ownership issue to the table. At present the Packers were/are selling stock once again....so these blahfoons made this comment.."...the fact that the public, so to speak, owns the Packers...NFL will make sure that mistake never happens again!" What, so a city is some what guaranteed they won't be held hostage, rapped, or abandoned by the likes of Stan Kroenke, the Davis Family, Jerry Jones etc. I played back that comment just to hear it again. These F'n owners...Bud Selig...another one. Planned obsolescence of County Stadium...selling talent off to cut payroll...yr after yr after yr. Sure he brought baseball back to Milwaukee after the F'n Braves left for Atlanta...but the talent he had and sold...Brewers could've made the playoffs and world series numerous times. Thank God he's gone! Blood pressure is boiling...gotta stop..arrrrrrrrrrrg!!

Agreed - Actually glad to have their following have to go the Vegas now to be utterly obnoxious. I lived in Denver for many years and while there you simply had no choice but to become a Broncos fan - it’s more contagious than the ominous omicron.. lol. Every other team in the division was welcome - but the Raiders. People hated their fans and dirty brand of football (back in those days). And back then the Broncos always ate their lunch. No worries on their falling flat - they’re a first round exit.

I guess you've never been around
Seahawks, especially the Steelers & Chiefs, Denver too
don't forget the freaken' Niners, Vikings, even the Packers (rare),
SL Rams, NY Giants/Jets, ATL Falcons, Saints, Panthers, Dolphins,
Bears, Browns, Bengals, Cowboys & Phillys Eagles
or everyone's coveted Patriots fans
Hell that's 1/2+ (19) of the league's teams, plus Many more too...
(I'm sure I missed a couple I have forgotten, incidences)

The worst brawl (NFL) I ever saw 1st hand, was in Seattle King Dome,
It was started by Seahawks fans, I think it was an old AFC West game
a barely 1/2 filled stadium/dome...
I was up there on business & went to a game,
I think it was the KC Chiefs, I'm not a fan of either team,
I just went to see a game, I was bored...
Way back when both teams sucked ***, perennial losers
one whole endzone seating area
"was brawling" among their own

all have a fraction of the base
that dresses up like it's Halloween
to go to games, it doesn't make them all bad
doesn't make them all good people either...
Some are super-fans/fanatics, a lil' over the top 'in some cases too'...
Some people that is their 'only life/identity', sad...

I can recall lots of trouble started by 'all the above fans'
Hell throwing ****, frozen water or beer bottles & snowballs
at the opponents in the endzone
in both NY teams & Philly/Eagles, or in the play-offs, several times

then Bengals coach Sam Wyche (spell)
had to come on the PA system & tell the fans;
"to quit/stop throwing ****, at the refs & opponents & they were NOT real fans"
both/all 4-5 teams fans, are perfect examples...

It's not exclusive to the Raiders, Oakland, LA or Las Vegas

Raiders fans & the "Black Hole" get a far worse rap than reality

"hell the parking lot is far worse"

I remember all the gang thugs/druggies
that are/were donning Atlanta Falcons black gear 'for decades'
rappers delight& anything black
(much like the Raiders, they are NOT football people, just thugs/criminals)

SF (Candlestick ?) kish eating fags :poke: was the worst,
actual riots in the stands/attacking their opponent's fans,
that killed/stabbed 2-3 people & injured even more
"all because" they had the wrong color jerseys on,
they didn't even play them for a decade after that
for fear of more riots, started by SF

at least it's not the NBA 'nothing but ********'

to each their own

Kudos to the Raiders, but I'm a Ravens fan. Despite not making the playoffs this year, they did respectable for a team running on 2nd - 3rd string players and a backup quarterback.

To clarify, I don't dislike Raiders fans. I just enjoy seeing them in misery. I have been reasonably well satisfied over the last last two decades.

1st NFL team to move was the Cleveland Rams IIRC
(hell there was like 4-5 Cleveland teams at one time)
to LA, 2 different stadiums in LA, then they moved to Saint Louis
(after losing in LA no base) started to win some
remember "fastest team on turf",
Dick Vermile finally won the SB for them
abandoned SL, then back to LA again,
now all of a sudden the base is back...

Brown moved & had to change their name, Baltimore Ravens
Cleveland kept the name after a huge lawsuit
the new Cleveland isn't what the Old Cleveland Browns
Jim Brown & Paul Brown's, Browns were...

Colts left Baltimore for Indianapolis,
in the dark of night no less,
that Debachel with 1st pick with John Elway in 1983
he wasn't going to play football, if he had to go to the Colts
(leagues Cheapskates at the time), he ended up in Denver

Even SF moved to Santa Clara 40 miles away,
it's their 2nd move & they are still called the 'San Francisco 49ers'
they org. before Candlestick park, were Keisar Stadium, lil' dive
shared with the Raiders in 1961-62 (maybe longer), not sure
how many years the Niners were there, before Candlestick Park
(South of SF) was finally built

St. Louis Cards' org. IIRC were org. in Cleveland too
before moving to SL & then to Tempe/Pheonix Az.

San Diego Super-Chargers (AFL) was org. in Anaheim/LA IIRC
then to SD good old Ducks 1st rd HOF QB Dan Fouts,
Don Corriel (spell) 'air Corriel attack', was pretty good
& then sucked for many years, until Drew Breese came along
(traded him to Saints, best move for Drew)
& them Phillip Rivers (I seriously dislike, that whinner)
couldn't get to the playoffs rarely & now back to LA
with another Oregon Ducks, 1st rd future HOF QB Justin Hebert

Edited;
Both NY teams Jets & Giants play in NJ,
org. NY Football Team, Giants played
in Polo Fileds &/or Yankees Stadium (IIRC)
I'm sure some will correct me if I'm actually wrong
I'm not a huge NY fan, I did like Broadway Joe Namath in his heyday
every 10 y/o did
Redskins 1937-2019, aren't even in Washington DC
1961-96 ol' RFK Stadium, when they were good
(beat in SB by the Raiders)
excuse me 'The Washington Football Team' :poke:
play in Maryland, history says were org. in Boston Braves 1932, Braves Field
then the Boston Redskins 1933-36 Fenway Park
they play in/at FedEx Field now, so they also moved 3-4 times
Snyder's (Daniel & his wife) a prick
he "allegedly" got Gruden in that 'E-mail trouble',
released private conversation, he was having with his brother Jay

a bunch of teams have moved
IF YOU ACTUALLY 'KNOW FOOTBALL HISTORY'
& NOT JUST SPOUTING HATE

Oakland Raiders 1960 were org. in Frank Yuelle Field/Stadium (spell),
lil' 5k person stadium in central Oakland AFL
I lived blocks from it at one time when I was like 5 y/o
single mother in a lil' duplex, by 49th & Telegraph ave
before it was a total shithole, like today...
Long before Al Davis was the owner
(he was the only person in the NFL that was a scout, AFL commissioner,
a position coach, ***. coach, OC & head coach & later owner, HOF-er...
1st owner to make a minority a HC, HOF-er Tom Flores 1960
1st rd pick QB, the head coach of the Raiders & Seahawks later
& he was a 1st rd pick of the Raiders too, later Al hired Art Shell
{1st black HC, he didn't fare so well} Al was the 1st to regularly integrate
pro-football, he was truly blind to color
)
Oakland 2 stadiums, Oakland's Frank Yuelle Field was standing room only
they outgrew it in less than1 season...
& the Oakland Coliseum, org was a huge step up
(it's just a run of the mill, shithole Baseball field, then & now)
then to LA Coliseum/El Segundo practice facility
& the Raiders/Davis family wasn't anywhere near the 1st,
or the last to move, the commish Pete Rosell (spell) had a hard-on for Al Davis
& wanted LA for the league or himself, huge TV markets, just like today
is why there was such a long suit/fight/court case over the move...
If they (Chargers & Rams) don't win it will be just like the mid 90's when both
the Rams & Raiders left, the same year...

I'm sure I forgot or missed a few...

off the top of my head, I think I did pretty well...

Then maybe you can understand why we feel good about a playoff birth. Win or lose in Cincinatti, it's been one heck of a year.

My two favorite football teams.... GIANTS ( grew up with them, Y.A. Tittle, Del Shofner, Frank Gifford, Alex Webster, et al ).... and the VIKINGS.... because my favorite football player played for both teams... Fran Tarkenton.... purple people eaters ( Carl Eller, Alan Page, et al ), what a great team, should've won at least one super bowl...

I never knew Tarkenton was a Giant and those Vikings from the 70's were absolutely great!

I never knew Tarkenton was a Giant and those Vikings from the 70's were absolutely great!

It’s an interesting bit of Vikings trivia. Drafted by the Vikes at the inception of the team in 61 then traded to the Giants in 67 then traded back to the Vikes in 72 and played 7 more years for the Vikes until 78. Sir Francis held pretty much every QB record there was and some for many years. And sadly as dominate as those 70’s Purple People Eaters were - all the many division championships and NFC Championships (I was at every one) There hangs in every Vikings fans closet the unbelievable gnawing, nagging need and desire for a Super Bowl victory. Minnesotans had undaunted, unquestioned faith in the Vikes ability to destroy their opponent during the season and in the playoffs. But their was something about the aura of the Super Bowl where doubt always crept in. And every time you knew within the first 10 minutes of playing time they just weren’t going to do it. The first one with KC I never saw but understand we were favored by a wide margin - then lost by one. Maybe that’s when the curse started. Because all of the other 3 - Dolphins, Steelers and Raiders - there was no confidence. Very early on you knew they were going to cough it up. And they did. All of us just pray for one - just one SB win in our lifetimes - that is those of us that saw the glory days fall short time after time.
