So I'll cut to the chase! I have a 440 that has an almost new single bolt Crower Cam in it,
and I need a 0.005 under timing set for it. Cloyes doesn't make one anymore and now I'm faced with having to buy a new cam & lifters for my engine! Anyone out there have one of these laying around? I really don't want to spend all of that Moola on another cam! Thanks!

My block was line-honed years ago, and also the main bores are at their high limit. I measured the distance with
Gauge Blocks and came up with 5.147. Standard dimension is 5.152. When I put the brand new Cloyes set on,
it was flappin in da breeze so I measured it. What a revoltin development this is!

Wow, i've never heard of such a thing, but it makes sense. How is a new cam going to fix this?

Thanks 69Bee! FAP has them in stock! I need two! One for now, one for later?????
I guess I have to call them, the web site is under construction and nothing works!

Go here: http://www.romacusa.com/

They sell undersize timing sets AND have great instructions on how to determine the size you need.

Whatever gave you the idea replacing your cam has anything to do with the timing chain length ?!?!?!

Well, the Idea came when Ma Mopar put one bolt cams in some of our engines, and the aftermarket people
made cams with one bolt. Then, they made performance cams with three bolts. Now, there are two kinds
of cams and timing sets, those with one bolt, and those with three bolts! Get where I'm going with this?
I have a nearly brand new Crower cam and kit that I'd like to use, but it is a one bolt cam. No one makes
a -0.005 timing set with one bolt anymore so I may have to buy another cam with three bolt holes in it.
Have you read all of the posts so far? My engine was line-honed many Moons ago, hence the shorter set
length.

I know all about line honing and undersize timing sets, believe me !! I just wasn't following your reasoning for replacing the cam.

If it were me - and this is just a thought - I'd try a 3-bolt sprocket on your 1-bolt cam. The cam journal and the pin will safely locate the sprocket on the cam and the 1-bolt and washer should be large enough to secure the sprocket.

Rollmaster CS5110 is a single-bolt big block set. To order "undersize" that number gets a suffix like -LB2 or -LB5 or something like that. You'll actually have to go on their site and do some reading, I'm not going to do everything for you!

Maybe another option is a Cloyes undersize chain only and using the sprockets you have. Just a thought.

I would try that idea if I could find one. The tech guy at Cloyes didn't think that would work but I'm
up for trying anything. I'm going to get a three bolt sprocket and see what the difference is. If I have
to machine something, I can do that. Tomorrow is another day!

There is no such thing as an "undersize chain". Give a chain an hour of runtime and it'll be a half inch longer! It's the sprocket that is a fraction larger in diameter. That way you can swap chains whenever the need arises.
