This must have been mid to late 60's. Some gas company was advertising putting a Tiger In The Tank. They even went so far as to have little tiger tails you could put around your gas cap so you had the tiger tail sticking out of your car. Okay, I clearly remember that.
But there was something else related to that. I think it was a couple of plastic horseshoes, maybe about 6" tall you put in your rear windshield. It's a vivid memory for me and here's why.
My dad owned a crude oil marketing company. Someone was stealing gasoline from the yard at night. My dad, my cousin, and I went out one night and found a car with their lights off pulled in next to the tuck yard. Dad turned his lights off and crept in right behind them. After about 30 seconds they realized they didn't know who was behind them and they took off. The chase was on. We got their tag number but I especially remember they had those advertising horseshoes in the rear window. My cousin knew who they were, warned them and it never happened again.
Do you remember these? I was probably 12 years old at the time.
