My son-in-law had a rough childhood after his mother got pregnant with him in high school. When my daughter was riding her bicycle, while attired with helmet, shin guards, and accompanied by a helicopter mom, Devin was terrorizing the trailer park on a gas engined three wheeler, no helmet, nothing. He survived, did a tour in the Marines, graduated from Penn State, married my daughter, learned to drive my Peterbilt in three weeks, drove a tractor trailer until he got a a job with the Pennsylvania state park system, and has since climbed the management ladder at a scalding pace. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. It was the 70s. No helmets, no reflector clothes, no helicopter parents, just big balls and no fear. It’s how we rolled.
