When I replaced my headlight wiring I had to drop the front bumper, and I was able to re adjust it and get it pretty close. I am looking at my rear bumper and it sticks out about an inch further away from the trunk on the passenger side. Looking at the brackets I don't see any in and out adjustment. Would I have to add shims between the body and brackets?

Just thinking. Maybe the bumper has a twist in it.

Did you look to see if there are stiffener plates behind the bumper?

Could be possible. There is a bit of a tweak beside the drivers bumper bolt near the licence plate.

An inch is a lot of twist not to be noticeable we'd probably even see it in the photo. Crawl under and look at the rear crossmember to see if its been punched in on one side.

An inch is just an estimate. You can sort of see in the picture that the bumper is higher and closer to the body on the drivers side. I will check the brackets and get some better pictures tonight when I get home.

I measured and the difference is actually half an inch.

These are the bumper brackets. I loosened the bottom bolts and the two holding the brackets to the rear crossmember. I could reposition the bumper, but as soon as I tightened the bolts, it moved back. I think I will need to add shims on the drivers side.

Was the bumper rechromed? Did it have a bend prior ?

Ill check mine to see what adjustments there are.

I bought the car this way. Both bumpers have been rechromed and are in really good condition. I am just trying to get the adjustment a little better.

If you sight across the bumper from one side to the other does it look to have a twist in it ?? It also could be one of the brackets has a twist and is pulling (or pushing) the bumper when you tighten the bolts down.

If one side wont go in. Maybe adjust the other side out. Find the happy medium.

I would say that your driver side is fine. The passenger side needs to come in.

Inboard of the bracket to the inside lip of the bumper is 3 1/8 inches.

Left and right brackets are different. So there not interchangable

The bracket should be flush with the crossbar it attaches to. If you loosin off one side and it springs back. Its possible the bumper was repaired and had a twist in it that was not detected
