The Island of Misfit Mopars
I think the OG single field 35 amp in my ‘68 Satellite is finally giving up the ghost. Any recommendations for one of these from Rock Auto, or elsewhere.? Thank you!
Yeah, that’s the plan. No internal regulator or one wire stuff... I just want to replace it with a Chrysler setup. Quick and easy! I’ll run one of the fields to the case for ground. I guess I’ll just choose one. I’m not sure I want an AC Delco. I think that is still GM. Although is might be made in Mexico as opposed to China.Replace with same if you can.
It’s my daily. I just need to swap something in. I already know a guy that wants the case as it’s early ‘68Rebuild it at Central Jersey Starter and Alternator. 732-727-4486
Don't think Chevy. AC Delco reman.I got mine at the local Auto Zone. 1969 and older single field.Be aware that remans will come with a tab that looks like it's 2 field.I’m not sure I want an AC Delco.
Thanks! I’ll look for that. I pulled the one in my ‘70 Charger for my ‘68 wagon and did the jumper thing. That one was a reman I got with a $225 ‘71 Scamp summer beater back in the 80’s.Don't think Chevy. Be sure to check both connections it looks like 2 field. One is grounded to the case even tho it has a connector tab.
Not saying all are this way, just be sure to check.
I agree... The single pulley looks better if you don’t have AC. None of my cars do. It was a N/A on my Six Pack Charger and ‘Cuda. They only listed the 2 pulley. I better not park at an OEM car show. I’ll get “points” deducted!I went with the AC Delco because it had a choice between 1 or 2 belt pulley. I wanted a 1.
IMO.....Rebuild it yourself. Alternators are simple devices; likely the brushes are worn out and are easily and inexpensively replaced. About the only other item that may need replaced due to wear or old age is the bearings. Having a bad diode (there are 6 total, 3 positive type and 3 negative type), either shorted or open, will be manifested as low output, but not likely. Why pay someone to do what you can do yourself. Just remember to disconnect the battery b4 working on the alternator.I think the OG single field 35 amp in my ‘68 Satellite is finally giving up the ghost. You’re right. I should do that in one of the many cores I have. Right now it’s cutting in and out. And since it’s my daily, I just want to swap it out for a reman now. I’m still running the points and mechanical voltage regulator. It doesn’t like running just on the battery even though I have an Optima in it.IMO.....Rebuild it yourself. Any of those alternators will work. Go with the 60 amp. With the 60 amp you'll notice a big improvement. Brighter dash and headlights. Less head light dimming. Is your alternator a single or 2 groove pulley? As someone stated have your original rebuilt. You can rebuild them with parts to turn your 35 amp alternator to a 60 amp.I think the OG single field 35 amp in my ‘68 Satellite is finally giving up the ghost.
