I think this guy has an interesting take on future collectible cars. It's not good.

Depends if you believe the BS we're fed or not I guess. I'm only 66 and I've been lied to by those in authority over and over again. Enjoy what you love and live day to day. Acid rain is going to kill us all anyway.
 
I'd like to think that someone out there will develop a natural gas conversion and home dispense system kit. That would be the easiest and somewhat satisfying compromise to the greenies.
Next would probably be direct connection EV kits for A, B, and C body cars. I'm actually surprised Stellentis hasn't started hyping this now.
The gasoline car versus horses comparisons are flawed in that horses today are enjoyed by the wealthy. Joe shade tree with his slant 6 Valiant 4 door does not survive in the scenario of future gas powered cars owned by the wealthy only.
 
I think that’s why that ‘16 Challenger Hellcat 6 speed I wanted in 2019 is over $10k more now with higher mileage. Oh well. I’ll just fix up my old ****. :D
 
I think insurance will be the bigger thing. I can’t get political on this forum but the “black boxes” that were mandated in all cars starting 2014 MY give the insurance companies all the info about your driving habits. Some companies now give you a break if you allow them to monitor you. Who’s to say they don’t demand it. In my state Pa. You can’t get a registration without valid insurance. So eventually it will be a money thing, if they will even provide coverage.

What is a Dodge Hellcat worth if it's illegal to drive? That 1969 Hemi Charger will still be a work of art. 30 years sounds like a long way off. 1992 is 30 years ago that's when Vipers came out and I still think of it as a fairly modern car.

I'd think not. With California banning natural gas furnaces and water heater sales after 2030, because it's not green enough, there's unlikely to be a push for cars running that fuel.

Yup... Turn off your heater, turn off your gasoline powered car, don't charge your electric car... Don't raise cows, they fart... Don't raise crops..... But pay no attention as the ruling class flies about in private jets eating & drinking what ever they please...

All well and fine even if your mileage drops
by half and everything rubber in your fuel
system needs to be replaced.
The law of supply and demand apply here,
and contrary to what the government is
trying to push on your every day existence,
ain't gonna fly. There's going to be a great
conflict between those barely making ends
meet when confronted with the high cost
of a new $50,000 EV and the cost and
convenience of charging stations.
Not everyone in the US makes a hundfed
grand a year or more. Apartment dwellers
hardest hit.
Keep your evil ICE car.

JMO,The lack of interest with the next generation is the biggest threat to the old car hobby.
Look around at the next swap meet or car show. The crowd isn’t getting any younger!!!!

Who says that won't change in the future, with a change of governments or policies? Maybe it gets modified so "classic cars" are exempt? Maybe it gets extended by 10 or 20 years? Who knows? People power may have an influence - a lot of rich political donors that love their classic cars getting in the ear of their favourite politician and suddenly the rules change.
In the meantime...I'm going keep driving mine and not worrying.

There are 270 million registered vehicles in the US, how can that be brought to an end any time soon, easy, out right ban. The California Governor, Gavin Newson, announced that fuel-powered cars would be banned in California. More so, the ban includes gas-electric vehicles or any motorcars with tailpipe emissions. Gas may be hard to get one day and that alone will drive the classic car owners into one of the most expensive hobbies with little return. The classic cars of today are living in the golden age of appreciation and it’s sad knowing that the future for classic cars is bleak. If you're looking to invest, look elsewhere, if you can afford to lose on the 1,2,3 or more cars that you thought were going to carry you to the death bed, you stand a better chance if you read my first sentence again or die soon. As for me, I've made the statement many time, I drive my car all the time and I'm not saving it for a return on my dollar, I don't with my new cars and I'm not about to start with my 65. I have no idea how hard they will push this issue. They may say those that have them, can keep and drive them. Again, I have no idea and I for one don't trust our government to go out of their way to make me happy, with millions fighting, maybe. I don't have the time left in my life to go rouge over a car. All I ever wanted out of my life was to be left alone to enjoy the fruits of my labor and I'm doing that as we speak. I will say that those of you that can't or won't bet on the market to save money and choice a car instead, good luck........ we'll see, only time will tell.
 
Before we get anywhere near 2050, we will have run out of lithium and rare earths for batteries, driven mostly be the banning of new ICE cars in 2030-35.

He does make some good points. But just like every other green wet dream, reality will crash it down.

Yes, that’s why I’m keeping “Lizzie” my ‘20 Ford Model T, she’ll run on just about anything including kerosine. She actually rides smoother off the asphalt!
Model T’s BTW will pass the California emissions pipe test as is in stock form.
If it comes down to it, I think the aftermarket will see a business opportunity and we will see propane or natural gas conversion kits and possibly home use refineries popping up.
By then it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see a conversion kit that enabled you to put water in place of the gas in your tank and extract hydrogen gas from it to run the engine.
Remember “Propane X” the ‘69 Hemi Charger 500 from back in the day?

I have a GTX today because every other investment I ever made did better over time. The car has always been my one major self indulgence, and lucky for me, I will be dust when the day arrives that it isn't driven.
