69 GTX taillight bezel restoration?

Hi, I am fairly new to this forum so hopefully this is the right place to post this thread. About 5 years back I purchased a pair of after-market taillight bezels for our 69 GTX. After a few years the finish started to peel off (see attached photos). The underlying chrome finish seems to be in good shape, and the fit is acceptable on both. I'd like to salvage them if I can.
Does anyone have any experience with this, is it possible to refinish these at home in the garage?

I've redone a pair of OEM bezels for my 69 Road Runner (although my chrome was not quite as pristine as yours) which are similar to the Sport Satellite/GTX style and was extremely happy with the results. It just takes some patience, careful masking and most importantly, good surface prep where you'll eventually spray your textured silver coating. I used a mix of two different small rattle cans I purchased from Michael's (hobby and craft store). Looks like your chrome under the painted area was not scuffed/roughed up enough for proper adhesion. Here's a couple pix of what I used and the results. Hope this helps. Good luck!

As boss302 says, careful taping off of chrome and surface prep is key. I lightly blasted all areas that needed paint. My chrome is not nearly as nice, but the painted parts came out great. 877 paints has exact paints and textures. I highly recommend calling him and he will walk you through exactly what you need. Good quality paint as well. Good luck, they just take a little patience!

You will need lots of tape and razor blades...and patience. If you mess up a little you can always use laquer thinner and a swab to clean it up. At least you only have to do 2 colors, black and silver, you dont have to do red too. Enjoy, it is kind of fun.

I paid good money for them too. I was told I should be happy with the fit as most of these aftermarket parts are hit or miss.

Getting part of the job right is not good business in my opinion. Do it right or don't do it at all.

Main reason I stick with pitted originals is there is so much trouble with repop parts in general. I also don’t want to send it off for rechroming only to never get it back or receive a messed up job. I don’t have time to do it myself so the 71,000 mile originals will do for me.
