How many people have you seen pass out in public these days?

Yes, many times. I myself have lost consciousness a few times as well. It's scary and can be a result of many things. Things like indigestion, eyesight issues, hypoglycemia, diabetes, mental issues, and random triggers for some people like smells or sights. I was getting blood drawn once at the military hospital and they brought in a basic trainee to sit across from me to get his drawn. He was a black teenager. The lady got the needle ready and he looked at it and his skin went white. I said, " You better catch him, he's on his way to the floor!" The nurse looked up and had a arms full of this kid, limp as a noodle. Out cold. Poor kid. It's called Syncope. It's a temporary loss of consciousness usually related to insufficient blood flow to the brain. It's also called fainting or "passing out." It most often occurs when blood pressure is too low (hypotension) and the heart doesn't pump enough oxygen to the brain.

Although I haven’t done it in decades, I could make myself pass out. I was told by others who saw me do that that I would start shaking or twitching and they thought I was going into a convulsion. Submit has never witnessed it, although I used to ask her if she wanted to see me do it.

Thanks for posting this. After a battery of tests at the ER the next morning after it happened to me, the only thing they could come up with was Syncope.

Many. On the job we called therm “sleepers. Wake with caution.

The way to battle it is to stick your head between your legs and breath in through your nose, hold it, and out through your mouth slowly. It gets more oxygen to your brain which is what you're lacking that makes you feel funny. Or, if you can't get your head down just breath in hard through your nose and hold it. Let it out through your mouth slowly. After 5 or 6 times you will feel better if that's all that's causing it. Try not to panic, it won't kill you. lol.

Boy that explains a lot!

Kids used to do that in high school. Somebody would squeeze another from behind until they passed out. Then just leave them lay there until they came to. I thought it was pretty stupid.

All I remember was suddenly sweating, next thing I know I wake up with wife in panic mode saying I was out cold for over 4 minutes and a guy on the phone with 911.

I had that happen when working on the farm on a really hot day. I think it was a result of being dehydrated and the temperature being so high. I was out for quite awhile with no one around.

Working at a hospital I happened to witness a few autopsies. The Doctor who was the head of the lab was also the County Coroner. The morgue was right next to the maintenance shop.

He would have medical students show up for lectures and almost every time one would pass out during an autopsy. I asked him why do people do this. He said that it's almost like a form of shock. While standing there starring at something they have never seen before they forget to breath. Then they pass out. Makes sense.

Can you demonstrate that for us now ? We'll sit here and watch......

I wouldn't squeeze anything though. I'd do it internally.

I experienced a vasovagal syncope while on vacation Hawaii. Started with a sudden, severe stomach cramp that triggered my vasovagal response and ended with me blacked out on the floor for about a minute. Thankfully my wife saw me suddenly stop and grab the counter so she came up behind me a sort of caught me as I collapsed and landed on her. Otherwise, I probably would have bounced my head off the concrete floor. Turned out I had come down with norovirus from food poisoning.

Oh that will do it!

I had a "Sandwich Wagon" burger one day, I said I would never eat one but I did. 4 hours later I'm taking a shower at home and I started feeling bad. Stepped out of the shower and bam, hit the floor. Came to and staggered down the hallway. Thought to myself call 911 or hit the sofa. I hit the sofa and passed out again. Nasty stuff!

I think we found some entertainment for the FBBO tent @ Carlisle 2023!!!

That's exactly what I tried doing to stay with it, but didn't work. Sat down leaning forward taking deep breaths. The next thing I knew I woke up with 2 people trying to hold me upright.

A few years back, we were at an All You Can Eat for Easter. While we were eating a guy started gagging. Some of the staff rushed over and gave him a Heimlich.
He was still there eating when we left.
