The 8HP isn't technically a "Chrysler" transmission (it's a "universal" ZF unit, used in Mopars, Mercedes', Rolls Royce, Jag...), but it has been pretty solid in my Grand Cherokee behind the Ecodiesel. My only complaint about it - and I'm not the only one, judging from customer concerns when I was in a Mopar service lane - is Ma Mopar's shitty software set for the trans (at least, in the WK2 platform). It HATES "california stops". It wants you to stop, and count to four. If you don't...it simply doesn't pick a gear. You get halfway through the intersection, that truck is about to slam into you...and THEN it will slam into a gear and go. Umpteen software updates later, and it still does it. Either the adaptive curve is goofy, or something in the fuel economy programming makes it stupid in situations like this.
That whole "fill for life" thing still freaks me out, though....
