Hello my fellow B Body members. Got a question I'm hoping one of you can help out with. I'm basically undoing a PO's half baked/half a$$ed work and I ran into something that just doesn't seem right with my 30+ years of Mope knowledge.

Got a '69 bird with manual brakes. However the studs holding the M/C are going from the outside with the threads going into the pass compartment. This isn't right is it? I know on A and C bodies it isn't as those have the studs coming from the inside out (unless it was the mount for a brake booster).

Anyway I pulled the nuts and the studs were pressed into the m/c so I pressed the studs out. They are serrated near the heads of the studs and I was wondering if anyone knows if these items are close to the OEM jobbers and if I can just remount them from the inside out. Yes? No? IMG_1546.jpg

Thanks in advance.

Those are the correct studs and they do get pressed in through the master cylinder and the nuts go inside the car on manual brakes. That is also the way the early A-Body and 70 E-Body with manual brakes is also

Hi Wedge, yes it is a 4 bolt master.

As for the rest of you: Thank you for your answers. I've never seen it done this way in all my years. Even my 68 Fury with manual brakes have the studs going from the inside out. Usually not an issue but the last nut was an SOB to get off. Not enough room to get a socket with a swivel up there. Took me about an hour to remove it with me swearing the entire time. Not looking forward to putting it back. :cwm21:

Use a 1/4" socket and long extention. Then Tighten with a wrench.
If you plan on changeing it over to a new style master then one of these is what you need. I have one if needid also. I also have a good 4 bolt master for rebuld if yours has pits in it.rr master.jpg

Studs go from the inside out on my 69 RTSE, nuts on the master cylinder side.
