As mentioned ENJOY and Cherish everything.
We took our Casey in for a checkup, fully expecting her to come home. Didn’t work out. She had just done a 3 mile walk with my wife. Ultrasound showed two tumours one bleeding. 5% chance of survival if surgery.
We wanted to take her home and think , they said please don’t. You don’t want to see her die in agony.
So she went to doggy heaven on my wife’s lap.
The staff all had tears in their eyes. We have been with that clinic since it opened in 1980.
Everyone grieves in their own way, so I can’t tell you that I know how you feel.
I think most dog people are real people.

My research revealed that cancer is very hard on dogs and chemo doesn't add much time and rarely cures. So I tried instead to make the most of our moments while he was with me. I took my work to the dog park, his favorite place in the world, and we would spend hours there. He had enough energy to play with dogs and chase the ball, but at three months, he went down hill in a few days. So he was good until the very end.
Not everyone can be in the room with their friend, I hope it helps them because it is rough on me. I buried him deep in the yard and planted an apple tree beside him.

We could have done chemo on Neko but decided not to. Would maybe give him another year but cause other problems. He was already having digestive issues due to his ongoing Colitis bouts so we decided not to compound it. Lots of easy walks, fun food for him and Coco, car rides and just hang out.

Just heard this one TV. A dog trainer said to stop hole digging by my dog, I should toss one of her turds in the hole and lightly bury it.
I let her out this morning, started my coffee, microwaved chicken breast and green beans to mix in her dry food, then let her in. I laughed at her nose that was caked in dirt. She might have a disappointment coming when I pick up this morning.

I saw "Lucky Dog" on TV today too ! Great show and Great ideas.Learned a lot about German Sheps.

You think your job is hard. My daughter is a vet nurse. She had two animals that died on their way to the hospital. Another died in ER. I think three animals had to be euthanized. It was a bad day but she has to get through those times. I know she got pissed at a lady for saying she could never be a nurse because she loves animals too much. Like the doctors and nurses don't love animals? They've dedicated their lives to helping them.
It's really hard on these professionals. There's a high suicide rate. There was a doctor from her old workplace that offed himself about a month ago.

My girlfriend used to volunteer at a shelter in socal. She had to quit, wanted to adopt them all, couldn't bear to see so many wonderful animals be put down.
I don't go to shelters for the same reason, I can't adopt them all, or even any more than we have now. (At the moment, one gs asleep on my leg in bed, one on the floor at the foot, one asleep next to the bed. I guess they like me a little. Potty stop shortly.
Edit: almost forgot the cat. She's on the foot of the bed, too. Of the bunch, she's the one most likely to be on the bed in the morning.

Ever consider that putting down a dog for its best humane interests on a daily basis might also creep over to human life decisions?

I wish we could do that. When they don't know their own name there is no quality of life left and they are suffering.

I could not do their job,I would be crying all the time. It takes a special/strong person to do what they do. JMO
When it was time for Titan, the vet and 2 assistants sat in the room with me for 30 minutes crying as bad as I was. I have the right vet clinic.

Yesterday, a dog from my neighborhood was at the dog park, though I didn't recognize him. I wondered as mine didn't act submissive as she does meeting new dogs. Then I saw the owner and understood. Though they had never played before, they ran non stop for two hours, pausing only to stand in the creek and drink.
Maybe I should send a note to my Vet describing the smile on my face and the utter joy my dog showed. They get to know our monsters and sometimes get very attached and have great sympathy when they need stitches or something. When we go in, I talk about my dogs for the few minutes we are there, but they don't get to share my joy. They are always there at the end though. It must be rough.

Yes, she cried along with the owner of a bloodhound that had come in the day before. Long enough to get attached.

My Mally girl Lilly still loves to chase butterflies! It’s cute and she is 1.5 years old…still a puppy !
