Detail Painting Advice for Interior and Brackets

I’m in the process of getting ready to paint a lot of parts like engine brackets, pulleys, bumper brackets, interior frames etc.

Does anyone use a favorite spray paint to finish?

I was thinking rustoleum primer followed by rustoleum paint or the VHT Epoxy paint that claims no primer is needed. I have read that VHT Epoxy will chalk in the sun so that rules out the dashboard if that’s true.

I was also wondering tint detail is correct for engine brackets and pulleys. Gloss? Semi gloss black?

The interior molding around the windshield- semi gloss black?

Dash - semi gloss? Flat black?

I like the Duplicolor products for small jobs.

Rustoleum can take a long time to dry.

I use rustoleum clean metal primer and then satin black rustoleum with majic catalyst/hardener shot out of a spray gun for pulleys and brackets. Gloss or flat doesn't look right to me.

Thanks. I was thinking that gloss was too much. I don’t believe it would look factory.

I would try SEM trim black, not to shiny it’s the best paint I have ever used. It sprays nice and adheres better than anything elese out there

Rustoleum Satin here too for brackets, pulleys, etc. I like Sem trim black for interior trim, black out on exterior trim, and grilles that have black accents.

I’m not sure about the dash the shade for the frame could be way off if you’re picky. SEM makes soft parts paint I would like to know how to redye the parts. I used TRIM BLACKion metal parts for everything. It lasts the longest and looks the best to me. I tried por15 metal prep on parts to neutralize the corrosion waited a week then sprayed the parts they never rusted and with stood steady impact. I did my garbage can holder for the bins out side. It’s been out there 6 years still no rust winter summer rain snow. It’s comes in satin and some differnt shades. My buddy treated a gas tank with metal prep painted it black still going strong no rust.

I’m interested in knowing how to redye the dash pads. Not paint. dye. I discovered how to dye plastic parts with acetone rit dye black. I’m going to try it again on bmw plastic parts for a car I’m going to sell in order to paint my charger. If the dye will take again I will post the procedure

Both of these dashes are done with Trim black. I will use it again.

I'm talking about the sheet metal dash with the VIN number the pad fastens to not the vinyl.

I painted a dash for charger once and the tint was too shiny. Sometimes now I get a glare on the windshield because of reflection from the painted sheet metal top next to the base of the front windshield..

Do you that SEM Black is the right shade for this?

The steel portion of the dash came from the factory with a textured finish - that way there is no glare on the windsheild.
For my 71 dash frame I used the Rustoleum textured suede finish paint.

This is the type of finish it gave.

More of a satin finish with a texture.
