68 GTX bucket seats......

my car was equipped with headrests....... decades ago, I gave my seats to a local guy to reupholster; he wound up being a drug addict, and my seats disappeared.

years later, I acquired a set of buckets from a 68 SS without headrests.

when I redo my seats.......... what do I need, and what's involved to add the headrests?.......

Head rests and a kit.

It is a pretty simple process to add the headrest kit. I think I bought one from PG Classics as well.

Don’t buy headrests from Herb’s Parts, mine are less than 4 years old and the vinyl covering has split. Allegedly they are made by AMS, but who really knows?

Head rests in my current GTX are restored originals done by the Krusin Moons shop, in Johnstown, PA, when car was owned by one of the partners. Still perfect 20 years later. I repainted the originals on GTX number five, shown below, and installed reproduction chrome trim strips.

I had little trouble. Only trick for my 67 was figuring out placement of the hardware and finding/replacing some of the screws needed. Some of the screws were too short for my seats and the kit was missing some too.

There was just a thread on this.

IIRC there is an additional crossmember on headrest seats that isn't on non HR seat frames.

Again, IIRC, guides the vertical rods down into the seat and keeps them from wobbling.

getting my ducks in a row....... I really don't have to spend that much money, it's going to be more of a "time" thing; but it isn't going to build itself

Warning PG Classics headrest 70 Charger bench seat

Bought a set for my 70 Charger bench seat. They DONT NOT go in. You need to remove the short rod bracket and ream it out ,long rod is fine. I noticed on 70 the headrest has only high and low setting. They do not go all the way down. Both headrests are the same and only one way in. I do not think...

From what I have seen I think the provisions are there for them in the later '68 seats but they are not on the early ones. So make sure yours can "accept" them.

They should be there. The 67 buckets have them and they were an option then.
