Changing Hurst Pistol grip shifter

Whatever you do, pop the extra 20 bux or so for the 'vintage' Hurst ball - if thats what you end up using - and not the 'modern' one that says Hurst on the side. That just reeks of 'recent' as well as "Im trying to be cool but dont know the difference' to me...

you are correct, it sits right next to my leg in second and 4th, as the angle slides it over.

i also have thought about cutting the pistol grip off but thats not necessary.

if the ball version doesnt move it over successfully, there is always heat and force for a sweet custom bend.

Don't cut it especially if original and in good condition. Lots of people would love to have it. I'd keep it and put it back on if you ever sell because most people love those.

its hooked to a tkx so i don't think its original. but no plans to cut it up

good point. i looked around a little more and found the "Classic". I initially didnt find one with the 5 speed w/ R lower right version. i only found the 4 speed versions.
You can definitely get the 5 speed ball without the Hurst script.

You can even get a tacky 'Hurst Equipped' badge to stick on your dash too.

I have four 70 Chargers, three of them have console pistol grip shifters, and the fourth one is also Hurst equipped too, tacky dash plaque and all.

"Don't like the pistol grip shifter" said no one ever... until now.
Do you sit down to pee?

J/K Like the other buys said, it's your car, make it the way you like it. (and then send that shifter to me. I'll properly dispose of that disgusting, uncomfortable thing)

harsh! haha.

its just different. not what I'm used to. i may give another stick a try. hell its only money and two bolts to change it out.

It's no secret that the pistol grip wasn't the best performance shifter. Even back in the day a Comp + and certainly a Vertigate had faster and shorter throws.

It's entirely about cool factor. And on a street car that doesn't need to trim a 1/10th second? I would live fine with it.

Mr Gasket V-gate was a pretty good shifter for a drag car. Not so great in a street car, imo. I had one, in a gasser nova, I much preferred the Hurst comp plus in my other car.
The v-gate is now a very desired conversation piece!
