My friend is considering selling his 69 Charger R/T SE sunroof car. It's a loaded car in triple F8 green. The car needs a complete restoration, but comes with many parts that are restored or very nice original pieces. Car is dismantled and on a rotisserie at the current time. Engine is non matching numbers, but I believe it is date correct. The car needs the typical Charger sheetmetal work. Supposedly one of only 29 built. What's it worth in the current second generation Charger market.

Pete that is rare but the problem is not many will buy a car that is striped down like you friends. You said needs to be restored, how bad is it? I dont think he will get any more then is low 20s. A person will have to drop 70 plus in it. I wish your friend luck on the sale. JMO

I think one would have to see it and the parts to make an educated guess. To get max value will take some time being an all-green and a basket case. If it was mine and I needed to unload it, I would take it off the spit and invite a posse over and assemble enough to make it look like a complete car to attract a buyer.

The car is not a basket case, the engine bay, firewall, all the frame rails, rocker panels, tortion bars crossmember, cowl and sunroof roof are perfect. It needs the typical trunk floor, partial floor pans, rear quarter panels, trunk extensions, rear valance and corners, and possibly a Dutch panel. Typical Charger pieces, not a rotted in half junker
I see 318 rusted to death carcus cars selling in the twenty grand plus range,no way is a one of 29 loaded R/T SE sunroof car going to sell for 20 grand. It has the fender tag and build sheet.

The car is in decent shape. He has a perfect factory floor pan ready to install in the car. He has mint fenders, doors with power windows, hood, trunk lid, grille etc. He has all the pieces that go to the car.

I can see that car bringing 35-40K with parts verification... Like you said rotted junk bringing big money with-out being a factory R/T SE sunroof car...

I was thinking low 40s myself in the current market,I just wanted to see if I am accurate.

He bought the car in 1988 and it has been stored inside ever since.

Boy, does that sound familiar. :p

I put $60k into my 68 from 2014 to 2019, and a chit to of work. after buying it for $16500.00 and wasted another 12k on first painter and some non used shelf items. Too nice to drive sold it. I would say its worth 25k tops depending on how many new and restored and unrestored parts maybe 30 to the right guy.

The current Charger market does not reflect that. RC paid 41k for a tan 70 318 car that ended up needing a roof skin and other patches. A 69 Sunroof loaded R/T SE is worth more than 25k.

Don't you need another charger?

"Basket case" refers to a car in pieces with said pieces stored in boxes, crates, etc (e.g. buyer brings the car home in baskets). The car looks to be not only totally and completely disassembled, but uni-body sheet metal is already cut off it. This car is the text book definition of a basket case.

I don't say this to degrade the car, just calling a spade a spade.

Just my opinion, I have to agree the sunroof is pretty rare, RC paid to much for that one, (in my opinion, just to clarify) but you never know what you got until you open Pandoras box. I know where theres a non rt big block that runs and drives for 20k right now thinking of snatching it up, all original and its all there, silver car. but no comparison to your example on the pedigree, good luck on the sale if he chooses to do so.

I bought a 70 that was from an estate sale almost 10 years ago now
Totally apart sitting on jack stands with nothing bolted on but all the new metal welded on
Former owner died of cancer so no one to ask any questions
Been working on it for the last three years in my spare time and finally back together enough it will drive around again

It will take a Charger person to put that car back together as few others will be able to look at the boxes of parts and have a clue where everything goes
Problem is us Charger guys are getting older and see time slipping by and know how much time it takes to get a running car again and would rather take the cash and buy something closer to on the road condition

You can ask $50k for the car all you want but it will come down to why the current owner is not able to finish it and how soon it needs to be sold
He can wait for the right guy to buy it at $50k or sell it now for $25k and be done with it
The way the car is sitting right now is the lowest of low points in its life and value
I paid considerbly less than $20 k for mine

Just the parts that go to this car are worth more than 25k. The power window setup would easily bring $1500,the grille 2k,the fenders would bring a grand each, the mint hood a grand the seats $1500 etc. I understand there are still a few deals out there on Chargers, but they aren't a one of 29 built 1969 Charger R/T SE loaded sunroof car. He does not have to sell the car and is perfectly capable of finishing the car. He is just testing the waters. He asked me my opinion,i'm thinking low to mid forties.

But the way it sits right now is the lowest of low value in that car's life If he can finish what he started he should
If he is just burnt out from working on it he should just pack it away and come back to it later when he has more gusto to work on it
