People that apologize for the globalists wanting global manufacturing and super cheap exploited labor do not have a good picture of what they are apologizing for. But that is a topic for the political section.
We can make anything in this country, and people just need to understand they should give their neighbor their money instead of other countries' gov'ts, and we would all lift each other up.
I will buy quality. I will pay more if it is made in USA, anything from tools, clothes, stuff like this video.... I could buy a T shirt at Walmart for $8, but I would prefer to buy a Made In USA T shirt for $22. Not just because I want to support my neighbor, but for reasons that belong in the political forum also, and that is all I will say about that.
Regarding molding and making a mold...
We have lots of tool shops in this country. Here is the thing-
Mold to make that guys little circle thing from china: eh, probably $11k. MUD unit? Probably $7k.
From the USA: Yeah, probably like $26k.
It IS labor cost. It IS material cost. It IS their labor practices and how many people they can throw at a project and the hours they can make them work.
It is NOT, EVER, a skill issue. That has to be the stupidest thing I have heard in years. More globalist apology.
Regarding materials: China melts down your old car and whatever else they get and makes tool steel. We do not do that here. Tool steel molds from the USA from the 1980'smight be in service yet. China molds will wear out after maybe 250,000 cycles, and the mold will actually compress several thousandths of an inch after 10k cycles.
Lots of talking down to people in the industry, I know this guy is making a video for normal people that don't know the industry, but his presumptions that American companies don't know how to do this stuff is laughable.
If people ACTUALLY wanted to make things in the USA, they can. The problem is, as always, they want to make it for as cheap as possible. Until we get past this idea of cost and weigh the social aspects, the political aspects of these decisions into it, we will never turn it around. It takes more than just me and a few others to do this stuff and be willing to pay for it.
