Hey folks, first time posting. Hopefully I’m in the right place. I recently purchased a 1964 Polara after 20 years of waiting for it to come up for sale. The previous owner bought it as it sits now for the most part and doesn’t have a lot of information on what was done driveline wise unfortunately. I’ve managed to figure out it’s currently got a 413 stamped A413 on the front pad. I believe that makes it a 1965 413. My real question is how do you identify what the 413 came out of? Is there a way to tell whether it’s out of a car or an rv? Also curious if there’s a way to tell if I have rv heads on it or not. We’ve been chasing an over heating issue and was told it could have rv heads that may cause the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have really enjoyed the forum so far. I’ll try to add a picture or two.

There will be a casting date on the side of the block. You can pull a valve cover and find the casting number on the cylinder head. (Highly unlikely to be an rv engine!).
There were no Vin stampings before 1968, so determining for sure what it came out of is impossible. But my bet? Mid sixties Chrysler.
P.S. GREAT looking car!

Welcome aboard and a lotta great people here to help. Love the 64

Nice car....I thought RV heads had better cooling?
Thanks! A local guy had mentioned the extra water jackets in the rv heads being possibly blocked off and causing a cooling issue. The car runs cool until you sit for a minute or get into some slower cruising. I don’t have an updated picture but the rad has been switched out to an aluminum unit and I’ve tried clutch fans, flex fans and now running a 7 blade steel fan on it although no shroud.

A 413 and a 413 industrial are drastically different. And either one could be in an RV. But you have a regular one. The intake is less than desirable, performance wise

As said, Nice Car!!

Thanks! I wondered about the intake, I do have plans to do the rear end and exhaust on the car next spring. Tossing around ideas currently on what to do with the motor. I like the 413, but still not sure if it makes sense to build off of it or maybe look for a 440. Main goal with the car is just to have fun on the street with the occasional light to light “race”, no plans for the strip.

See if you can find a cross ram intake for the 413. That would be cool.

That would be cool, they look awesome. The car did come with what I’m assuming is the original single 4bbl intake and carb I believe. That cross ram would look cool under the hood, I’d love to put a super stick hood on it at some point as well. Big plans, or at least dreams for the car anyways.

The 413 cross ram was the bad *** of the time. 380hp/450Tq was the factory rating. I’d stick with the 413 over the 440. It’s more period correct. Does your car have a fender tag.

Yes there is a tag on the fender, unfortunately it looks like someone sanded it at some point and there doesn’t appear to be much left on it. I’ll try and snap a picture of it tomorrow and post it here.

The factory crossram is MW. Won't fit. You could get after market. But with the extra expense and poorer performance, why bother.
