I actually just need the base portion with good mounting holes intact, so a messed up mirror housing is ok.

Yes, I know. I find sometimes people own both types. I also go to Ebody forum. I am putting this on a 72 B body though. Last person who owned and did most of restoration, used 70 E body mirror, which is 1 year only as far as the base attaching. Because of the outline in the paint and mounting....I'm doing the same for a mirror that broke off. Hopefully that explains it fully.

1970 mirrors have mounting holes to the outside of the pedestal. 71 and up moves the mountings in towards the middle more. Thanks!

That mirror is not a 70 E-body mirror looks like a 73-4 B-body mirror which has the the taller base and the wider spacing on the holes..

That does look like the tall 71 up base.
But I have never seen one with short tabs past the screws.
The screw spacing is nearly the same, less than 1/8" different, so you would have a hard time measuring that by eye.
Did someone drill out a stud mount style?
Whats the drivers like?

The p/n in the housing is 3548726 14-25-64. Brief findings on the internet show this to be for a 70 Ebody. Strangely though, one source shows 3548727 would be the RH or passenger side. This definitely came off the pass side! I disassembled it and I don't think it ever was before, it was very hard to get the mirror dismounted. I'm not worried whatsoever about what the correct mirror is for a 72 RR. Just want to fill this spot so as not to repaint, except base.

Except the one on ebay with that pn has the mounting holes set inwards. I think I'll just buy a repop and see if it mounts correctly, then just use the base from it. I was just looking for a beater one with a good base.

Thanks for everyone's help. Appears it is 73-74 like stated. Also thanks to Mr. Cuda on Ebody also, with close up pics of 70 and 71. Like I told him, it's just weird that I found the exact same pn 3548726 on mine as I found on a set for sale in ebay. But they clearly had different mounting holes closer together. I can't find a pn on the base I have. Maybe the housings had the same pn and the bases were put on as needed? Who knows....Thanks everyone

It’s not An 1/8. It’s wider than that between the two and yes it can be seen by the eye when you know what you are looking at. ‘71-72 B-body is not the taller base 73-4 B-body is. After reading the poster replies it seems my eye was right.

I try to be very factual in my responses. If you read the post I was responding to, I was trying to establish that it was not a 70 E base.
70 E and 71 B,E base bolt pattern are .100" different, so yes less than an 1/8"
71 B and E bases are taller than 70 E. So you can split hairs if 73 is taller, but again establishing that his pictured base is not 70 E.

It’s not IF 73-4 are taller they ARE and that IS what he has. Again like I said it’s easy if you know what you are looking at and was not difficult to see. I was just giving this member the correct information to get him the correct base.
