That’s about when I first started going there. Shanghai airport was still a military base. Chinese fighters on the tarmac. Then had to walk a gauntlet of Chinese soldiers once walked down the stairs off the UAL 747.
So different now. I do 3-4 trips a year to China.
And, my oldest told me that a lot of Chinese aircraft had a LOT of American similarities when he was there.

Saw this at local hangout, he just bought it and apologized for it having a Mopar engine in it. Huh?? 32 Ford

Recently sent one of my engineers to China instead of me. He got food poisoning and ended up 3 days in the hospital there. Had to pay. $225.00 USD. He said they took great care of him too. That was less expensive than the hotel room too.
This is why Asian doctors come to our country. Recently I've been driving a young woman from Nepal, who is interning at a local hospital, on her morning commute. Prior to staying with a friend of ours, she was riding a bicycle to work. On Monday, I'm going to grant her request to ride in the GTX.

If she completes the internship successfully, she will obtain her medical license here, then do her residency. She has described several of her patient work ups to me, and her degree of thoroughness is impressive compared to some of the established local hacks I've visited.

Her dream is to eventually settle in my town, and in her words, "be a rich American like me." My biological grandfather did the same thing 100 years ago. Interesting to see the same process many generations later.

Very blessed and she gets it!! The soldiers told my parents money grew on trees in the USA. It does, but there's more passed the low hanging fruit for those that really get it and want it.
