I've got my Dana 60 From Strange (S-60) mounted on my rotisserie for painting and assembly.

It's time to pull each axle and install the brake backing plates.

If I rotate the housing to a vertical position, and pull the axle out, is there anything that will flop around in the housing and wind up somewhere that I don't want it to be?

I know that typically this is done in a horizontal position.

It would be much easier to pull the axle out straight up, install the backing plate, put the axle back in, turn the whole thing over and do the other side.

Anything I should be aware of?

Why not do it the way it is normally done? People have been doing it that way for a hundred years. Just sayin.

What’s the difference? Pull the axles out individually vertically if you want. I would put a rim on the ground with two lug nuts on it to hold it steady, but you have the twisty. I have a spool in mine, so there isn’t much of anything to come tumbling out. But I can’t think of anything not really contained that you would knock out of place anyway

Shouldn't be any reason you can't pull an axle straight up and out.
