Ha! i have some stuff in my cupboard from the mid 1990's. It is there because i rarely, if ever, pull them out to have any. They just sit in the dark getting older.
most notable is a half of a 1.75 of Jack. it has a different proof then the newer stuff. It is better then the newer stuff, but thats not because it is better or aged better, it is because the new stuff has become the mcdonald's of whiskey.
I have other stuff I like better. So my son will probably inherit that half a bottle years from now.
There is a bottle of Christian Brothers brandy from the late 1980's up there that came from the farm house when we cleaned it out. No, I doubt that is magically good now either.

I agree with others, just drink it if you have it and like it. Life is short. Will it taste better when you are a wrinkled old man? When friends that you could have shared it with have passed? If it is a hobby, try new ones out and keep a bit of your favorites on hand. Limited edition? No time like now to see what the fuss is about.
I don't drink much harder stuff at all. So I don't buy much harder stuff at all. A few here and there over the years to try and share with family on holidays, that sort of thing. Never to save. It is not an investment. Enjoy it while you can.

Sorry to disappoint ....but whisky stops aging once it is removed from the barrel and put into a bottle.

Only wine ages in the bottle.

Wine gets better with age...to a degree, then it reverts to vinegar.

Whisky gets no worse or better with time spent in the bottle. The worst that can happen is that the Angels get more than their fair share of the contents if the owner doesn't drink it first.
