Engine stamping.

Hey all.

I am looking for the vin stamping on the block of my 79 440. Cast in 78.
These are the numbers I have gotten so far.

Passenger side casting numbers 4006630-440-4
Just above that casting is the date of 8•7•78

The only stamping I have found is on top driverside pad by distributor those are 9T440E
9 21

Any help? I dont see any stamping down by the oil pan/transmission at all. No evidence of stamping there.

It is probably a truck, RV or industrial engine, as car 440 production was supposed to stop in 78. If you can't find a VIN stamp, then there probably isn't one.

The previous owner did say it was from a Motorhome. But I thought it would still have a vin. Thank you.

The pictured engine is a 440, built at the Trebton Engine Plant, as a 1979 model. The engine was installed in an MBL300, MBH300, or an MBH400 front section chassis, or provided to a builder for a Class A motor home. These engines were not stamped with a vehicle identification number by Chrysler.

If the engine is still as assembled from Chrysler with its originally installed 4006452 heads, and they use 5/8" hex, tapered seat spark plugs, it was originally a 440-3 premium heavy duty engine. Otherwise, it is the 440-1 standard engine, with standard 4006452 heads, similar to 1976 - 1978 passenger cars.

Passenger car production of the 440 and 400 stopped after 1978. The 440 engine continued in 1979 in the aforementioned applications. It was ultimately replaced by the 446 cubic inch International Harvester gas engine in some 1979 and 1980 applications.

Replacement engines built before and shortly after 1979 for warranty or other uses were typically not stamped with a build year digit. In 1994, I purchased one of the last remaining new Chrysler replacement 440 short blocks. The identification pad is stamped with only "5 20" and "440". Its casting date is 4-20-1978.

But Its A 440!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND, looks like I'm seeing the heavy side reinforcement characteristic of a cold weather block. Most likely a cast crank, but excellent stock item for building, IMO. (like any factory block, only more so).
