Help Checking fuel sending unit

AMD unit, want to check it before I install the tank. So I set my tester to OHM and I put the positive on wire stud and ground to flange were it mounts to tank. If I move the float it should change readings correct? Something like 10-72? Am I doing it wrong? I get no change at all. Thanks Dave

sounds correct to me . the battery in your meter new ? i had to take one apart to bend the contact and it still did not work. go to a junk yard and find a old one and fab them together.

Can you measure AC or DC volts with your meter ? Could have a bad test lead.. With your meter set on Ohm's, and proper setting selected on your meter, meter, test leads connect to threaded stud & to circular flange to test the resistance with float movement. Polarity of meter leads does not matter measuring resistance. Do you have some other restive device to check the meter ?

Use your meter and check a ballast resistor. That way you will know if the meter is working.

I have a nice meter, but it has a "hold" feature. This has tripped me up many times if i accidently hit that button, or something else does. Pretty dangerous feature, imo. Maybe yours has something similar??

BTW, good on you for the attempt.....everyone should think ahead like that. Those numbers can certainly be important if troubleshooting is needed later on.

Looks like your meter is set on 2000 Ohms instead of 200?

Hold the leads together. Does it read ZERO ???

Then one on the frame and one on the stud, should be 10 to 74 or so if you move the float arm up and down.

Bingo almost dead battery , I was doing it right just just not enough battery .
