Sad. A prolific and great songwriter with his musical partner Tommy Boyce. They can be seen in an episode of I Dream of Jeannie. R.I.P.

Kind of what they called bubble gum music back then. I was 12 and I was diggin it. And a year later I’m listening to vannila fudge etc. go figure

Last train to Clarksville I heard was actually an anti Viet Nam war song. It was supposedly written about a soldier stationed at an Air Force Base in Clarksville TN who was shipping out in the morning and didn't know if he was ever coming home.
  • Boyce and Hart wrote this as a protest to the Vietnam War. They had to keep this quiet in order to get it recorded, but it is about a guy who gets drafted and goes to fight in the war. The train is taking him to an army base, and he knows he may die in Vietnam. At the end of the song he states, "I don't know if I'm ever coming home."
