Committing a misdemeanor in Fla as of Oct 1, 2025

This is like getting a ticket for no front bumper on a Superbird, no side marker lights or shoulder belts on your '67 Gtx, the list goes on and on, fact is these cars were built to the NTHSA guidelines for there model year, end of story.

NTHSA was established by Congress 12/31/70, btw.

By the logic that I am seeing here, what happens when say you are talking to somebody and you lean back casually on your bumper. Now you are obscuring the tag. How does that make sense? Besides the obvious intent at purposely obscuring the tag. What about some of these plastic “frames” that hide the state and other info.
What would really pi— me off would be a proposed bill that may or may not pass that would require a front plate. I have a historical plate now on my car that was approved several years ago. There is no way that I would find a second plate like that. It does not exist.

Or maybe a car following or stopping too close will get ticketed for covering the tag of the vehicle in front of them… LOL

Relax guys. I can practically guarantee this is aimed at guys on sport bikes with fender eliminator kits.

Absolutely! These types of laws are mostly aimed at the people who are up to no good. It’s just one more tool in their arsenal to get to them. Most cops will use it that way. I’m sure there will some who go overboard and not use common sense. Which as the OP says will cause you hardships. At least you’ll win the fight though.

Frames are an issue out here too. I use this. Doesn’t cover any part of plate, and prevents chafing on finish.

If that was a thing here I and I worried about it (I probably wouldn't) if anything I would have fun with the solution. Time to fill up? Pop off the whole magnetic plate holder with pogo pins for the light connection and stick it to the bumper where its still clearly seen.
Now that I thought of it I kind of want to do that because I hate crouching down and holding the plate down to fill up!

Like I did in Carlisle last year when the bulb socket for my tail light got knocked out of the tail light housing when I loaded my wheelchair in the trunk.

The zealous young cop had the misfortune to pull over a retired attorney in a ‘69 GTX. Funny now, but it wasn’t at the time.

Sorry, but no LEO in Florida is going to bust you for moving your tag down to fill your tank at the gas station. Now if your spring breaks on your factory flip down tag and it hangs down then you probably will get pulled but most of them after realizing your issue would assist you in tying it up to get home to fix it.

So, what you're saying is, when you pull into a gas station, a cop will be watching you to cite you as soon as you pull up the plate holder to re-fuel. Subsequently, simply for said infraction, your car will be towed & impounded.

I never saw one that wasn't spring loaded , they came back up by there self...

some 1958 Ford pick ups came without a tail lite or signal light on the pass side from the factory . my dad bought one , got stopped by the local small town hill billy police , he took the ticket to the Ford dealer , they ordered a factory light and installed it free...

If FL LEO's wanted to start issuing a bunch of tickets to people who are actually breaking the law, they could start by enforcing the speed limit.

In the real world of FL driving, you have to be going more then 15 over to get noticed.

It's nothing for an average motorist to pass a LEO vehicle that is going 5 over.

It is nothing to get passed by a LEO vehicle that is going 12 over and NOT enroute to an emergency.

It is possible that an overzealous cop would arrest you for folding your plate down while filling up. Depending on how the law is worded it may be justified. It shouldn't end up in court but it wouldn't be there long. It would get laughed out of court in short order.
I'd love to see a cop try that on me with my 65. You think he had fun writing the ticket, I'd be the one having fun when he got done. I'd ride the system like a galinate steed. That's totally ridiculous and a money maker for any of us that get a ticket. NEVER how it was intended.

Speaking of a big money maker that has very little to do with traffic safety-

FL also needs to clean up the language in the red light camera laws that says cars must stop "at the line".

Does that mean before the line?

If it does, say so.

Can they stop on the line?

If it does not, say so.
