Tested at Milan tonaight after the spin problem the last few races. Mark Mennscer told us to lower the pressure in the M/T radial slicks to 16 Psi. Started at 16.5 psi. What a difference, 1.32 right off the bat. Then swapeed to the new Eddy Thunder series carbs, untouched and no air pan to seal the carbs. Imediately went 9.5800 (best ever pass with the 486") along with a 1.2998 60ft. We tried to run the air pan but it slowed down. Tried jetting richer with the air pan and it still isnt right. So more testing to get that figured out. Had a 12-16mph head winsd all night as well.

Interesting.

It's an odd combo of parts that our friend Sean put together. He was upgrading and offered him the motor for less than it would of cost us to buy used parts to build one together ourselves. Had less than 10 runs on it. 486" low deck, 4.390" bore, 4.00" Crower light weight crank, Indy SR with ti valves, Diamond pistons 11.8-1, GRP rods, .760" roller, Harland Sharp rockers, modified Indy mod man, 2 Eddy 800 AVS. 4.10 dana, 8" T/A converter. Weighs around 3480 w/ him.

Quick car for sure, congrats

Nice combo Doug. Gives me some ideas (intake)for the wagon so I can run Nostalgia Super Stock.

You can look at the post I did on the intake mods a while back and duplicate it with a little elbow grease. Any Q's I'll be happy to answer. I considered COOPing these mods with Indy but the returns on the investment weren't worth my time.

Nice work guys! It's got more in it. Converter slip is pretty high and it's still spinning after the hit according to Scott. A little more in the airpan/carbs and collector extensions will help. It should have enough mustard to dial to the 9.50 index in good conditions. I was hoping he'd be at Norwalk with you.

Doug, sounds like a great combo. Perhaps get the weight of the car/ driver down to 3150 may run 9.20's with less than 500 cu. in. Good suspension tuning is the Magic bullet!!! I'm installing sliders to the Calvert split mono's on the 62 "Sinister" Savoy...

As an update. We are still chasing our tail a bit. It's all good until it gets bright and sunny. We are close.

Preload, car weight balance, front and rear shock valving, and tire pressure for greasy tracks - with radials it's harder to kill the sidewall. I know I'm preaching to the quire!

There just isn't a lot of low hanging fruit to take weight out from what I recall. He could do a deck lid, both bumpers and a ladder-bar whatever that amount$$$ too? There might be close to 200# here and there but, it's still 'stealthy' the way it sits now. Doug's car is still over 3300# with a bunch of effort. There's still power left in the heads and intake and cam and headers and oil pan and...But all that comes at a cost. This was a 'budget' based build. I have never seen your 'Sinister' car but it looks good in the avatar! What does it weight? What's the combination etc?

It is possible to get B bodies down in weight, But it's a big task to get a race ready with 200-230lb driver down below 3300#. Aluminum block is a huge weight savings. Fiberglass is difficult to maintain and look really nice. I love chrome bumpers. Yes you can chrome, wrap, paint glass, but it's not the same. So now it's what's cost effective? Also how factory do you want the appearance? With glass bumpers, deck lid, aluminum block mine could get right around 3100# race ready with fuel and my 200# in the seat. That's also about $10K all said and done. Scotts 62 is mid 3400# with his 230# in the seat.

Is Milan still 1320'? I haven't raced there in this century.
