One year in to my career as a mechanical engineer and driving and making payments on my first new car--a 1961 Plymouth Valiant V200 2-door hardtop. Bright Red, bench seat as no buckets until '62, floor stick and the big 225 CID engine and the toilet seat on the trunk. I considered adding the hyper-pak 4bbl carb kit but opted out because of cost. I got a speeding ticket in Nebraska on I-80 as I was headed to California for a vacation. I was seeing how fast it would go before I ran out of Interstate and went thru radar stationed on a bridge over the highway at 90+. Talked the cop out of it.

I was 2 yrs old in LA County and figured out how to climb out of my crib, walk out of the house, leave the neighborhood, walk across a 2 way, 4 lane road into my grandmother’s neighborhood and house. My grandmother called my mom and asked if she knew I was there. They both freaked out knowing what it took to get there.

I was 4 years old the forth of 5 children at that time but went to seven children by 6 years later. My dad being self employed farmer just bought a used 4dr full size 60 Plymouth ex cop car 318 dual exhaust three on tree for my mom to drive. With 5 kids didn’t take her long to talk my dad into moving up to a town and country Plymouth wagon. I drove the heck out if that 60 Plymouth in our farm fields after putting in another engine from a 61 Plymouth that I held to the boards and punched it into drive. I guess I just wanted to see what would happen. Lol The whole car shook and shuddered and that was my first and last auto trans I ever destroyed. I drove that 60 from 14 to 16 years old doing everything you could do in farm fields. I even took the doors and hood and trunk lid off to lighten it to get all 4 wheels off the ground like the Duke Boys jumps albeit not nearly as high though. It is funny how when all four wheels are off the ground you have no tire noise just engine. Enough said glad me and my buddies became better drivers and lived through our stunts.

12 years old, attending South Junior High in St. Cloud Mn. Dad was driving a pretty cool 56 Plymouth Belvedere two tone Turquoise and Midnight blue.

Beautiful! I have always liked the 1962 Chryslers. A friend of mine has a '62 300 Sport (non-letter) in white. It has dual air conditioning.
My dad’s boss that year drove the same car in red. His secretary drove a black 1960 New Yorker. It was destiny that I drove a black Chrysler 300F 25 years later. The instrument panel those cars share has never been surpassed.
