Went on vacation in August in Harford county MD I had a vehicle to my right that was there constantly, giant tires about four inches past the wells. When I first got my car five years ago I had a similar situation where I took a shot to the windshield. Went around a corner and suddenly the passing lane was empty as far as the eye could see, I floored it and a couple seconds later saw the police SUV but couldn't slow down in time.

As soon as the lights wherein a breaker hard and pulled over in the center the guy barely had to move. Had my license and registration for him before he even got to my door.

He pointed is radar/laser whatever so I could see the screen and said thats crazy I agreed it said 109 and I was in a 65 zone, really didn't think I got that fast that quick (2013 Taurus SHO performance pack)

A lawyer sends me a flyer saying to fight it, I hire him, day of trial its supposed to be 11:30 guy does not show, sends some other guy I don't recognize with like 5 minutes to go who takes me out into the hall, I tell him what happens he says its up to me to say as much or as little as I want, me thinking hes a professional decides to let him do all the talking.

Mind you I have a certified clean drivers record since 1998.

We get in front of judge and guy basically speed reads the things I told him like hes in a race to beat the clock. Adds nothing.

No value what so ever, Judge says I appreciate you took a defective driving course, and hired representation and knocked the fine down from 534 to 2 hundred and something Lawyer asks if she can lower the speed and she says she doesnt do that. He offers nothing else. Asks me if I can pay today and I say yes, he says good I'll show you to the cashier, tells me to appeal as I pay. (nothing to loose, you can only do better, worst case senraio the appeal guy changes the fine back to the $530.

Offers to give me all my paper work back and I tell him no to give it to my lawyer for the appeal. I get home and email my lawyer "what happened today" He said he got caught it circuit court and couldn't make it so he sent this guy over last minute and that he'd get it appealed.

My court date was the third and He hasn't responded to a single email since the one that said he'd get the appeal filed.

First question, if this doesn't get appealed what happens to me as a pa driver who got caught in MD sign 109 in 65 showed up to court and paid a fine?

Second question why am I being ghosted? When the judge gave me the paperwork and the guy walked me over to the cashier I didn't ready any of it, I was just listening to him about the appeal.

Did he screw up? Should I not have paid, did it end things there?

Can lawyers do that? Take your money, not show up, send someone who doesn't know the case last minute, promise to appeal then ghost you?

Kinda sucks I'm 51, never been at fault for an accident, last time I had a ticket I was basically a kid, I can't say I wasn't going 109 cause I was looking out for blinkers to make sure no one was going to pull in front of me but it didn't seem fast and it was like 8 seconds maybe. And if you factor in that the limit is 65 but the average flow of traffic is more like 75-80 to go from 75-80 to 109 probably comes up a lot quicker then people think.

Was it wreckless driving? Worst case your insurance is going up and your state may make you take an online driving course to keep your license.

You needed to pay and walk away. Lawyer, you needed bring a real lawyer. A real lawyer would have cost more than it was worth, unless you shot someone, and in that case, I have one for that too.... You don't go to a gunfight with a knife. Better to go to a knife fight with a gun. Lesson learned. Now you need a lawyer to take care of your lawyer.........

So you admit you were speeding!

There was a seven page thread posted here last summer about my getting a moving violation with my GTX while attending the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals the prior year. I appeared on my own behalf, and won. If I'd paid another lawyer of equal competence to represent me, the cost would have been at least triple the price of the ticket. I had a good case. However, most are losers, my career win ratio was less than 50 percent.

Back in the day, before sometime in the middle seventies, violations like speeding were criminal. They changed to being infractions and most states went to reciprocal agreements with others. Meaning getting a ticket in one state, was like getting a ticket in your own state. I googled reciprocal agreements between Md and Pa ( you might want to check that out). Florida just made it a criminal offense for 100 mph, I don’t know how that equates to out of state drivers, other than you might be arrested right then. BTW, what is a “defective “ driving course?

I'm more than happy with the ticket price. Showing up and waiting was absolutely wild. There were people who did harm, real harm, put people in the hospital and got PBJ

One girl checked left right left before making a turn, didn't see a car to the left pulled out in front of them and sent the driver and son to the hospital, totaled the cars, said she it was a mistake and shed look better next time and the judge gave her PBJ. (probation before judgement)

The random guy they sent me told me I was lucky it happened in august, that if it happened after October 31st it would be 3 months in jail. That just seems insane.

A few seconds of speed, not a single person was affected, no swerving, no braking nothing.

Just pull into open clear lane in an attempt to pass a few cars and get away from the vehicle that I was uncomfortable being by.

I was the only one with a lawyer though, I actually think that worked against me. like "Through the book at the guy who can afford the lawyer".

The ticket said it was payable by fine, I didn't even have to go to court, but why get points etc if you don't have to.

I just don't want to go to jail, or have my license suspended but I heard MD reports back to PA.

But yeah so far its like $80 to obtain a certified driving record to show I've had no violations since 1998.

Which also involved a bunch of time with me driving to different auto tags places to find one that could do certified.

$55 for a defensive driving course that took hours online.

1 day off of work to go down to court (losing a vacation day to go)

Gas and tolls both ways probably like $100

Lawyer was $400 until he heard my mph then upped it to $800.

Top speed on my 300C reads 135. Who the reckless teen was I have NO idea.
I can relate the circumstances, as I-have blipped it to outrun nit wits etc and went faster than intended. That said, I never leave home without Radar. It has not let me down.

Every ticket I got in MD I went to court. Every judgment was half the fine or no fine, no points. Defended myself. I'm in Pennsylvania now and haven't had to deal with any tickets yet. Do the crime, pay the fine.

I've heard of the Tri State before. Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Supposedly shares the records.
