Left turn and hazard overheating! 1972 Charger, steering wheel off. Replaced turn switch with OER switch. Continuing issue. Jumped/ bypassed flasher/

Replaced turn switch with OER. Jumped fuse and both flasher relays. When left turn or hazard engaged, switch overheats/ sparks/ smokes. Switched out to original OEM switch and exactly same immediate overheat. Any ideas, guys? Dig further into steer column? Ignition switch? Hoping to get this resolved. Thanks in advance for your advice!
 
Fuse should be blowing? Pull all bulbs and see. Some of these bulb sockets have springs under the contacts that could short to ground. Visual inspection of the sockets is a next step.

Unplug the wires to the rear at the left front kick panel and see what it does. If ok the short is from there to the rear lights. If not ok unplug at the bulkhead under the hood the front lighting harness. If ok the short is in the front from the bulkhead to the bulbs. If not ok the problem is in the dash area and could be at the cluster. Unplug that and see what happens. If ok the short is in the cluster. If not ok there is a wire from the column into the main harness shorted.
 
@pnora nailed it. Process of elimination & having a handful of AGC 20A fuses help. Allow the fuses to save your wiring as you test

Oh wow! Thank you guys for the process of eliminating the three “zones” of power. Leaded us to the front left turn signal bulb housing short Great advice!
So thankful to be a member of this amazing forum!
I am sure I will have plenty more questions about the final assembly of since 17.

The best way to find a short without a handful of fuses is to place a test lamp across the fuse socket. During a short the bulb glows brightly. While watching the build unplug branches of the electrical circuit tree. The bulb will stop glowing when the short is eliminated.
 
I have to search for the same on my 74 after reassembly my car. My fusebox began to meltdown due that same overheating fuse.

I was getting at the same time a dimming dome light and unnoperative brake lights
